Donder1 Posted May 5, 2013 #1 Share Posted May 5, 2013 We are going to sail on the Grand in Sept. and am wondering whether they have the "Old" or the uncomfortable "New" balcony furniture. Also wondering if they have put in pillow top mattresses? What is the overall condition of the ship and how's the service?
paul929207 Posted May 5, 2013 #2 Share Posted May 5, 2013 I don't know if we had the old or new mattresses, but we had no trouble sleeping for 49 days. The same with the balcony furniture. We had a great time there most evenings.
Donder1 Posted May 5, 2013 Author #3 Share Posted May 5, 2013 We had the new mattress (pillow top) on the CP and it was great. Had a rock to sleep on on the Emerald.
Pia1913 Posted May 5, 2013 #4 Share Posted May 5, 2013 We had the new mattress (pillow top) on the CP and it was great. Had a rock to sleep on on the Emerald. You were on the CB, not the CP. And this poster wants to know about the Grand, not the Emerald. OP. same as Paul. we were on for 49 days and beds were perfectly comfortable. We had a BB balcony. Daisyloo Posted May 6, 2013 #5 Share Posted May 6, 2013 We were on the Grand for 2 weeks in Nov/Dec 2012. We had 3 cabins in a row. 2 of the cabins had the rock hard mattresses and one had the new pillow top mattress. We asked for an egg-crate topper and that helped a bit. iceleven Posted May 6, 2013 #6 Share Posted May 6, 2013 Got off the Grand two weeks ago. It seemed there was some sort of cushion on top of the mattress but was totally useless. Steward added another layer (egg crate) but didn't help. Both of us woke each morning with a backache and numb hips. Hubby was cranky and tired each morning because of a lousy night's sleep. Princess, you have got to do a better job with your mattresses. Even Carnival has better mattresses.
Crzn-Life Posted May 6, 2013 #7 Share Posted May 6, 2013 We too were on the 49 day cruise plus another 15 RT Hawaii. On the first portion of the cruise, we had the beds in twin configuration and when in that configuration the pillow top is not available so had to request foam toppers. When we had the bed put in queen configuration it had the pillow top and was quite comfortable. I must have a softer bed and had no problems with the pillow top. Balcony furniture was comfortable and it definitely was the old version because the paint was peeling off the metal table.
Nancyquilts Posted May 6, 2013 #8 Share Posted May 6, 2013 We had a mini-suite and the balcony furniture was the new uncomfortable choice. I wish they had the old again.
