Putterdude Posted September 2, 2013 #26 Share Posted September 2, 2013 Just to expand on the previous posts, most people will find that the BC Liquor Store in Harbour Centre which only a few blocks from the Pan Pacific is the traditional size of liquor stores through out the province and will meet their needs quite adequately.[/quote] I could probably expand the above post to include the large BCL store at Oakridge but I am not certain why a person would want to disembark the Canada Line, come out of the Oakridge station, schlep their luggage a block in either direction, drag their luggage into the store, then open their luggage on the sidewalk outside the store and find a place to put the purchase or have yet another bag to handle back to the Oakridge station then again when they alit the Canada Line at Waterfront station and on to their hotel. Now there are a lot of things that I don't understand and perhaps someone reading this thread will find this all very desirable but on the other hand when there is a very adequate BCL store 3 blocks from the hotel I am not certain why a person would want to take all this on.
Kamloops50 Posted September 2, 2013 #27 Share Posted September 2, 2013 I have found that buying wine is cheaper on board then ashore in BC. The wine on board is about $ 50 USD in BC liquor stores and $30 USD on board. Sent from my Transformer TF101 using Forums mobile app

Rare martincath Posted September 3, 2013 #33 Share Posted September 3, 2013 The Robert Moldavi wine we like isn't available on BC stores. I asked the manager in Kamloops he remembered seeing on the shelf one time. Someone had special ordered it and never picked it up. If it was a Princess cruise it must be the Mondavi PS Merlot you like - I think it's the only one of the Private Selections not currently stocked by BC Liquor, and I don't think any of the better tiers of Mondavi wine would be remotely close to $30 a bottle. Given all the other PS reds are $17.99, if it were not a special order I find it hard to believe it would not be priced the same or even less (especially given Calfiornia Merlot has yet to recover from the 'Sideways Effect' that cut prices almost 30% across the board when the movie came out). While I've never tried special ordering through BC Liquor I do recall how outrageous the markups were through LCBO in Ontario for individual special orders, so I'm quite willing to believe a wine could end up 2-3 times the normal retail price as a Special Order - but all the available Mondavi Private Selections in BC Liquor are 2/3rds or less the Princess on-board price and it's rather irrelevant to compare pricing of special order products versus off-the-shelf. In my experience most of the on-board wines are about 40-60% more than in BCLiquor where available - as well as the Mondavi examples the very widely available Chateau Ste Michelle Riesling is $17 in BCLiquor, $24 on Princess. Of course the same wine is a whopping $7 in Target Bellingham! We certainly pay through the nose in Sin Taxes here in BC, but not enough to outweigh the usual cruise company profit margins (and don't forget compulsory 15% tip on booze...) Princess has now introduced a 15% corkage fee to any bottles in excess of 2 per pax that are brought aboard. Part of my weekly ritual for 5+ months in AZ is to patrol the isles of the supermarkets for wines on sale to about $6....maybe $6.50 for a special occasion.....and I have had to increase this from about $5/5.50 in the past year. It never ceases to amaze me that I can find what is normally priced to $20 at that price point. From a spirits point of view, I can purchase a case at Costco or Total Wines for what I pay for tow bottles here at home. Oh, the pain we endure. lamchops Posted September 14, 2013 #35 Share Posted September 14, 2013 (edited) We like Robert Moldavia . I pay $29/bottle on board , checking the same wine is $49/bottle in the liquor store. In BC taxes are about 40% of the cost of the wine. I have spent time in wine sales and always look for value when cruising or visiting stateside. Robert Mondavi, Private Selections Cab is aprox $27 onboard, $7 in the USA, & $18 at BCLS. The Woodbridge line would be priced slightly lower than the Private Selections line. The Robert Mondavi Napa Valley is $20 USA and $40 BCLS. Those 2 wines are not even close in quality to the Napa Valley.;) As a Canadian, there are prices onboard that are the same as at the BCLS if you know your prices. on Princess: BCLS (price) I usually buy the french Chateauneuf-du-pape $31 ($35) as the mark-up seems lower on french & italian wines. Barolo, Stefano Farina $45 ($50) Luce Della Vita $79 ($105) Ornellaia, Tenuta Dell'Ornellaia $140 ($190) Ferrari-Carano merlot $40 ($40) Don Maximiano, Founder's Reserve $85 ($90) Robert Mondavi, Reserve $135 ($150) Silverado $58 ($60) Duckhorn, paraduxx $79 ($80) Sylvester, Kiara Private Reserve $26 ($25) Franciscan, Magnificat $58 ($60) Opus one, Mondavi-Rothschild $169 ($370) Much less value for the Americans on board but there are a couple. Total Wine (price) Luce Della Vita $79 ($80) Chateauneuf-du-pape $31 ($35) Opus one, Mondavi-Rothschild $169 ($200) Edited September 14, 2013 by lamchops

lamchops Posted December 1, 2014 #37 Share Posted December 1, 2014 Is there a shop in the Canada Place Terminal that we can buy wine? That being the case the closest liquor/wine store will the BC Liquor Store in Harbour Centre, a block to the south (away from the water) on Howe St. and 2 blocks east (left) on Cordova St. It is an average sized store for a BC Liquor Store and will carry all of the popular brands of spirits and wines including some excellent wines produced in BC. There are no liquor stores inside Canada Place however there is a government liquor store around the corner. Unless you're buying local wine, it'll be much cheaper to bring them along from the states. You are allowed 2 bottles of wine OR 1 lter of spirits per person into Canada. Drinking age is 19 or over in Canada.
