flgirl66 Posted May 11, 2013 #1 Share Posted May 11, 2013 How much cash do you usually bring is it just needed for the ports and do you use it for casinos or do they charge your sign and sail card?
firefly333 Posted May 11, 2013 #2 Share Posted May 11, 2013 Its better to not use cash in the machines, as it never comes out even. Even the penny machine, best I could do was 16 lines at 16 cents. I never could make it come out even. So I would set up a account in the casino if I were you. I used to bring about $100 for each port, but I bought so much in the past, I dont buy as much now. I bring $40 to $50 in small bills, mostly ones for bartering in the ports and for tipping shuttle drivers, taxis, baggage handlers.. the list goes on. Froufie Posted May 11, 2013 #3 Share Posted May 11, 2013 Depends what you are doing in the ports? - how you are getting to specific spots (e.g taxi money) - extra tips and shopping? I agree that you don't need to use cash in the casino - you can start with cash tho and then 'save' it on your casino account/s&S card for further playing? klct39lg Posted May 11, 2013 #4 Share Posted May 11, 2013 We took cash into ports. I would recommend taking smaller denominations because sometimes you get change back in a different currency.
CheckersMidwest Posted May 11, 2013 #5 Share Posted May 11, 2013 In Grand Cayman, we're taking the public bus to the beach at Royal Palms. It's odd amounts, like $2.50 for the bus, $2 for beach , etc. To avoid needing any change, I've broken into exact bills. Example: I'll have $100 for Grand Cayman. (4 people) $20 round trip bus, $8 beach, $10 2 rental chairs, $10 rental mat, $52 lunch. I gave the kids $100 total for all the ports. (They're older) I have cash for Jamaica also split accordingly. I've called the bank and credit card company and gave them dates/locations so if I need to use my cards there won't be a problem.

Thats why I bring so many small bills. I have run into place that will not make change at all, or as you say in a different currency.. so I always make sure I can round up to the nearest dollar now when I pay. Jamaica, downtown in a drugstore.. would take US money but gave me back in Jamaican money etc. you especially need small bills if you are shopping outside of the port area. I never bring bills larger than a $20 bill either. .. except the one time I was going to a dentist in cozumel. (and they would have taken cash or credit card). I had made the appointment before I left home and discussed forms of payment.
