dont know for sure where to ask this?

Good to know. I've never brought bottled water with me - too much of a PITA since I've always flown into the port city. Plus it has always tasted fine to me. But for my upcoming cruise we are driving to NYC and so the hassle factor won't be an issue... and hearing that there is a high salt content in the drinking water, we will be bringing a case of drinking water along!

I'm surprised though that the ships' desalination systems would leave that much salt?? But I don't really understand scientific stuff like that all that well. :o

if it leaves so much salt then why does so many people praise the water onboard,

This recent study announced in the past day might be interesting to some of you regarding salt intake..

Also, I think it's pretty common knowledge that restaurants tend to use salt for taste and the best way to minimize salt intake is to eat at home when you can control how much sodium you use. Obviously, you can't do that on a cruise ship.

If you're on a low sodium diet, you probably know what foods to avoid and what is basically ok. Just assume anything that comes prepared from the kitchen is probably salted if it helps the flavor.
