GaNavy Posted September 18, 2013 Author #51 Share Posted September 18, 2013 The meet-up at 6:30 in Schooners sounds great! FYI, last year they had a trivia contest in Schooners almost every night at around 7:00 or 7:30, who knows about this year, but let's meet and we can always make the rest of it up as we go along. I am SO looking forward to this trip. It appears Woody and I will be moving from our large 1886 home here in Galveston to another home, smaller, a few days before the trip. We head to Barcelona on Nov 4th and will be staying at the Axel hotel there. Other friends are joining us there on Thursday. I will be ready for this somewhat relaxing time!!! Did anyone else buy or see the all you can drink booze/soda package. It is $55 a day pp and you can drink most anything on the ship. Even there drinks of the day. It's a good deal if you partake in adult beverages. Our room is 7678. Knock on the door anytime. ;) Richard and Woody Thanks, guys, and you're right about looking forward to the trip. Looks like we'll be neighbors...well. at least we'll be on the same side of the ship - I'm in 7540. Feel free to come by. Good luck with your move, I'm doing the same thing right now. Ugh. I'm arriving in Barcelona on Friday morning, staying at a little place that shares the same address as the "pink" hotel Continental. Small room but probably won't be spending much time there except to sleep. Not so sure about that drinks package - nice to not have to pay at the end of the trip but $770 for a bar bill is probably a lot more than I would partake, even ex the gratuities, that's $650+ of drinks, about $45/day. I'd probably rather spend it at the spa. But who knows, still 7 weeks to decide. :)
GaNavy Posted September 27, 2013 Author #52 Share Posted September 27, 2013 Let's bump this thread up to the top one more time - maybe some others will see us and join the board...maybe....maybe...? Hey, I hope everyone has a great weekend! Six weeks from now we'll be in Spain (most of us, anyway, I'm guessing) beginning our adventure!
GaNavy Posted October 2, 2013 Author #53 Share Posted October 2, 2013 Time's getting short...thank goodness! Five weeks from tomorrow I'll be on my way, and some of you will probably already be there...lucky you. :)
GaNavy Posted October 12, 2013 Author #54 Share Posted October 12, 2013 OK...so there hasn't been a post here for a while - let's bump the thread up and see who's still joining us. Help us out here, pilotboy or allset2go or t_and_j - maybe we've got more fellow travelers;) who just don't know we're here....? Well, in any case, hope everyone's having a good weekend...and I hope none of you is suffering because of the shutdown - I work for the feds but my agency has an appropriation already so we're all working and getting paid, something I can't say for many of my friends. :(

pilotboy1985 Posted October 14, 2013 #56 Share Posted October 14, 2013 Getting closer to sail date! We leave Nov 6th and arrive Nov 7th. We're staying at Hotel Universal Barcelona. It's opposite the Parrell subway stop. Just wondering, anyone who has posted here already, were any of you on the Mariner TA last fall? Just wondering if I'll see some familiar faces. Woody and I are headed over to Barcelona on the 4th of November. And I am ready. We've been looking at the ports. Lots of fun to be had! And I am looking forward to meeting everyone. I'm arriving in Barcelona on the 8th, staying at the Toledano, which is in the same building as the Continental Barcelona (the notorious 'pink hotel' on the other board) on the Rambla. Snall room but cheap, has a little balcony, and really, how much time is a guy traveling alone gonna spend in his hotel room in Barcelona? ;) The Schooner Bar at 6:30, I'll be there, probably wearing Mardi Gras beads as I have lots and like to have fun with them on my cruises - a couple of years ago on a Carnival cruise, an older lady tapped me on the shoulder, chuckled, and said, "Excuse me, did you have to show your boobies to get those?" I laughed so hard I almost fell over.

Looking forward to meeting everyone:D I think arriving on the same day of departure would cause me to have many panic attacks! lol. If I could get over that though it would be great, less time off work, less expenses and less planning! One day I'll work up to it and try it. Last year on the Mariner fall TA we were leaving the same day Hurricane Sandy hit. It was really rough flying out, and right after our flight took off, they closed the airport. If my flight was just a minute later, we'd be stuck for days. Glad I made it!
RobertoWard Posted October 17, 2013 #62 Share Posted October 17, 2013 I know what you are saying, but RCL get my flights and I don't have much to say about it. Normally they fly me out on the day before and getting in the morning of the departure day. Not something I like but it what I have to put up with. Hope to see you all at the Schooner Bar at 6:30 pm
Cruisedafewtimes Posted October 20, 2013 #63 Share Posted October 20, 2013 Hello to all I apologize if the answer to this has already been posted. My question is what is the best way to get from hotel ( very near las rambas ) to the ship ? If a taxi is the best, most economical means then is there a specific port to ask for ? Are there any others looking to buddy up and do the same ? Wayne :D wwpetra at gmail dot com
RobertoWard Posted October 21, 2013 #64 Share Posted October 21, 2013 have been to Barcelona many time and to get from the hotel to the ship I think a taxi works the best it takes you right to the cruise terminal. See you on the ship.

I almost got stranded by Sandy, too - my easy flight from DC to ATL to BCN wound up being DC to Detroit to CDG to Barcelona. My traveling buddy lives in Atlanta and he wound up being rerouted through Dusseldorf :) but Choice Air handled everything and we arrived in Barcelona within 15 minutes of each other. Wayne :D wwpetra at gmail dot com Take a taxi from the southbound (toward the harbor) of La Rambla if you're close enough that your luggage isn't a hassle. Where is your hotel? Lots of us are staying on La Rambla or close to it

DALBRENT Posted October 24, 2013 #68 Share Posted October 24, 2013 (edited) Just got upgraded to 1230! :) If anyone is or has bought the premium beverage package, RCI is charging another 15 percent on top of the 770.00. I reported the error over a month ago and was told it would be corrected by OCT 15th but they are still charging it and it has not been corrected . Edited October 24, 2013 by DALBRENT

I've never been offered one, glad to know it really does happen. I thought the beverage package was too pricey at $770, much less with another 15% on top of it. I just can't imagine spending over $55/day on beverages for myself, but I guess it's a good thing to offer to those who want it. I do like a good cocktail, and I'm fine with buying some expensive ones...but I usually go for something a little cheaper...and let's face it, we're being offered this package because the bean counters at RCI have figured that the cruise line is going to make a profit on it. Well it wasn't really an upgrade. I had to pay 321.00 but I went from ocean view on deck 3 to a superior balcony on deck 10. I think it was a deal! With drink prices on board so high I don't think I will have a problem making out:( 4 foo foo drinks by the pool, Martini before dinner and wine with dinner I think I'll be ahead. If at the casino keep them coming. Kills the pain!

Woody and I purchased the All you can drink package, because we do enjoy our cocktails through out the day. Not that we are drunks, but a bloody mary after breakfast, some beer during the afternoon by the pool, or one or 2 of the foo foo drinks. And then wine/martinis with dinner, and drinks in a club or lounge after dinner. So for us, this is worth the price. And we don't have to worry with gratuities or our bill when we get home. ;)

Therefore you will need to carry my luggage around! LOL - I am just kidding. You are in the prime and having a great time. Enjoy everyday because age does not matter!
