patnlcc Posted May 21, 2013 #1 Share Posted May 21, 2013 Am sure this has been asked before. Which Shanghai acrobatic show do you consider to be the best?
maryann ns Posted May 22, 2013 #2 Share Posted May 22, 2013 That probably changes with time. I would post this question on Trip Advisor. You could also do a google search and find reviews. We went to one when we were there two years ago. We arranged for the tickets through our hotel. I think it was called ERA. We had seats second row centre and were totally wowed by the entire shore. We had no trouble finding our way there on the subway.
patnlcc Posted May 22, 2013 Author #3 Share Posted May 22, 2013 That's good to know, thank you. Are the subway signs written in English as well as Chinese?
Philob Posted May 22, 2013 #4 Share Posted May 22, 2013 That's good to know, thank you. Are the subway signs written in English as well as Chinese? Signs will be in Chinese with Pinyin (Chinese phonically transcribed to the Latin Alphabet). Something like Dong Fong Lu which is something like Eastern Road. Or it'll be in Chinglish = "Slip and Fall Down Carefully" or "Dangerous Road - Kids Caring" or "Wash after Relief". :D For the Olympics and Expo they've tried to clean up the Chinglish, but  Here's a link for a Shanghai subway map: http://www.google.com/imgres?imgurl=http://www.shanghaimajestyplaza.com/image/shanghai-subway-map-new.jpg&imgrefurl=http://www.shanghaimajestyplaza.com/shanghai-subway-map-new.html&h=1361&w=2000&sz=301&tbnid=Gii7RpF-O94KzM:&tbnh=82&tbnw=121&zoom=1&usg=__TfIt1-Gg9NZ7GhPkLmtFzRwNEC4=&docid=WEPZhry7nw6jcM&sa=X&ei=OhmdUZz4K4f8iwLw04HwAg&ved=0CD8Q9QEwBA&dur=

stowaway2k Posted May 23, 2013 #9 Share Posted May 23, 2013 Can you tell me how far it is from the Hyatt on the Bund to the nearest subway station? The nearest is the Tiantong station on Line 10 It's very easy to find from your hotel, a straight shot of 7-8 minutes by foot. Your hotel of course will be very helpful in this regard. If you have a smart-phone, Google-maps will be a good friend to you. you can also download a Shanghai Metro app to your phone. In the meantime, the metro and street maps at www.smartshanghai.com are very good. I live in Shanghai, and if I can be of any help, feel free to ask away... :)
maryann ns Posted May 23, 2013 #10 Share Posted May 23, 2013 All subway station maps and directions have English (or words in our alphabet). Even the subway self-serve ticket vending has an English menu. When you are on the trains there are announcements in Mandarin and English and the information also scrolls on a screen in both languages. You can get good maps once you are there, but here is a subway map in the meantime. They are building new lines and stations amazingly fast. http://www.exploreshanghai.com/metro/ Wit taxis almost none of the drivers speak English and their map reading is poor too. You need to have the name of your destination in writing in Chinese.
patnlcc Posted May 23, 2013 Author #11 Share Posted May 23, 2013 Thank you all for this very helpful info. Our cruise starts in Tokyo where we have been before. It ends in Shanghai where we have booked 4 nights as we want to see as much as possible.
