travelgoddess1 Posted May 27, 2013 #26 Share Posted May 27, 2013 Thanks for the reports -- we are glad to hear that you are all ok. Scary night, though.
RSLeesburg Posted May 27, 2013 #27 Share Posted May 27, 2013 Yes. It is great to hear that everyone is safe. It's times like this when you can appreciate the "connectivity" of the Internet and social media. I am sure that many families will be waiting to hear from loved ones on board, and not many know about CC.
cruisegirl1 Posted May 27, 2013 #28 Share Posted May 27, 2013 We are ok. Bad fire on deck 3 and 4. Headed to Freeport. Lifeboats we lowered and opened as we stood at 3 am for over 4 hours at our muster station. Passengers were ill (passing out and vomiting). Not sure if we will continue or what. Glad everyone is safe. I noted your post about sick passengers. I imagine it was a scary time. Is there any health issues on board or do you attribute the passing out and sickness to the frightening situation? Thank you for posting. Best regards M

alligeek Posted May 27, 2013 #30 Share Posted May 27, 2013 Thank you for the update! Our family's thoughts are with you. We were just on the Grandeur last week and I'm so glad to hear that everyone is safe.
emeraldcity Posted May 27, 2013 #31 Share Posted May 27, 2013 Thank you for posting. This obviously affects those of us who were planning to sail shortly on the Grandeur, but not nearly as much as those who are currently on board. I can't imagine the stress and discomfort of sharing the promenade deck with the entire contingent of passengers for that long a period of time, especially with lowered life boats in front of you. Our thought s are with you.
Gigi11111 Posted May 27, 2013 #32 Share Posted May 27, 2013 Glad everyone is okay. Made me a bit nervous to hear it was Royal Caribbean but they seemed to take care of the fire quickly. Do they know how the fire started?
cruisnseas Posted May 27, 2013 #33 Share Posted May 27, 2013 I am glad everyone is physically ok and accounted for. Onboard fires are scary any time but in the middle of the night they seem so much worse. I have been in a few situations on cruises (bad luck, I guess!) but the scariest were when the life boats dropped into position. Nothing says "danger!!!" like realizing you might really have to evacuate the ship. Hopefully they can recover soon and you can go on to enjoy the rest of your vacation. Dharma517 Posted May 27, 2013 Author #34 Share Posted May 27, 2013 The illness I an sure was due to standing in muster position tight like sardines with life jackets on for a good 2 hours no water and nerves. After 2 hours when the fire was finally out (we were being constantly updated by captain Espen) we began to relax a bit and stayed in muster but some people were able to find a tiny spot to sit. I just made it to ghe windjammer for a bite and guests and crew from officers to midnight deck scrubbers are eating side by side. Quite an unusual sight. Dharma517 Posted May 27, 2013 Author #35 Share Posted May 27, 2013 All cabins are now accessible however there is water damage..smoke damage...some cabins without power and that may not be useable. This is aft of the main staircase. Passengers are now being allowed back to there rooms.

Dharma517 Posted May 27, 2013 Author #37 Share Posted May 27, 2013 I also want to mention that this was all hanes as best as it could be from my tiny world in muster station 3. Eventually water and soda was passes about ...mattress covers were provided for the cold guests and children and we were escorted to the bathrooms if required. Breakfast is being served and music is playing in the WJ. They were amassing a small army of staff at guest services. We will see what happens. BillB48 Posted May 27, 2013 #41 Share Posted May 27, 2013 Thanks to Dharma and the updates and that things are under control. From what Dharma has reported I would not have a high degree of confidence that the cruise will continue as planned. Hope everything can be worked out so there is not any serious inconvenience to anyone.
emeraldcity Posted May 27, 2013 #42 Share Posted May 27, 2013 Thank you for the updates ... but you must be exhausted. We complain about a 15-20 minute intervals during the pre-cruise compulsory muster. You were stuck there for hours. My heart goes out to all of you. I hope you are able to board on Friday without any issues....a co-worker of mine is on that sailing as well. There are no other ships that you can move to at this point, right? Grandeur is the only RCI doing Bermuda, isn't she? Sorry this is happening.
deborahjo Posted May 27, 2013 #45 Share Posted May 27, 2013 Early Monday, the ship was on 38 nautical miles from Freeport, Bahamas, where it was headed for “evaluation,” the company said, adding that the vessel had full power" Sorry misread the article. Dharma517 Posted May 27, 2013 Author #50 Share Posted May 27, 2013 I haven't heard anything. The usual facilities like the fitness center are not open because crew is busy cleaning up. Not sure what will happen. There is a new FB post from RCL regarding this cruise but I can't call it. Can someone please and see what it says?
