Day Room in Papeete ?

This year Oceania allowed late disembarkation for passengers as the flights do not leave early to return back to North America. They may do the same thing next year. It annoyed the heck out of the embarking passengers, but made it easier for the disembarking passengers.

Make sure you understand what a "day room" actually is. In many Papeete resorts it simply allows you to enjoy the property (pool, beach, etc.) and includes one-hour access to a shower room. It does not necessarily mean you have a hotel room for the day/evening. You may prefer the late disembarkation option if offered.

THe other salent thing is that it is not cheap...this Tahiti and you can expect $$$$$ This also holds true on outer islands Like Bora, where all the beaches are owned by the resorts and you have to pay to use them.

This is not like Hawaii or California

I am happy to take a room for the night but would want an early check in, so I can at least use the hotel until I have to leave for the airport.

We had a day room at the Le Meridian in January. We had a room and access to beach, pool with no extra charge.

We had the same thing provided when we were on the Paul Gauguin when it was still owned by Regent. That was back in 2002. The room allowed us to stow our luggage, use the facilities and nap when we wanted because our flight didn't leave until almost midnight for LAX.

We had a day room and transfer at the Meridien through Oceania in January 2013. We had booked it before plans were announced to let people stay on board a little later. Perhaps someone who took that option can give details.

Here's what we had - a transfer in the morning to the hotel, a regular hotel room for the day, access to the pool and grounds. A transfer just in time for the plane home.

We dined at the hotel (not included) and had a local beer in their bar. We walked to the Musee of Tahiti and Islands. Warning - in January they took cash only for entrance - local cash. We did a currency exchange at the hotel.

We were on the Marina for the April 2013 French Polynesia cruise. On departure day we were allowed to stay in our cabins until noon. After that we were free to stay on the ship until almost 5 PM when Oceania took us to the airport for our 9:30 PM flight (which, of course, was delayed).

Meals were still available on-board, so we saw no need to get a day room.

Just one note - are you aware that January is rainy season in Polynesia?

That was the case when we went with Renaissance Cruise line. But Ren paid the tab and provided us with lunch.

roger b,

If you haven't done so, I would recommend reading the reviews from similar cruises this past Jan/Feb on Marina. Several reviews were posted by our roll call.

We did have a day room reserved at the Radisson - black beach was nice - rest of the hotel wasn't. Limited A/C, room wasn't ready when we arrived. Would have much preferred to go back to Manava Suites where we stayed when we first arrived. We thought a day room would be a nice place to hang out for the day - take a quick shower before we boarded the plane home. Didn't know that the airport was "open-air" so we arrived 3 hours before take-off - and then waited in 90 degree heat and humidity.

We stayed at Le Meridien for three nights in Tahiti a few weeks ago. Nice place - it is 12000 Starwood Points for a free night, if anybody is interested. We were quoted $120 to be allowed into our room at 6am, when our flight arrived, instead of the usual 3pm (I had emailed the hotel a couple of weeks before arriving) checkin, but when we left, the front desk receptionist told us that since we were Gold Members of the SPG program, the early checkin was complementary.
