How difficult are traveler's checks to use in Moorea?

I'm trying to discern how much $$ to take for five days in Moorea before our cruise. I know I can use credit cards/debit cards, but I'd rather avoid using them too often. Are traveler's checks easy to cash at the local banks or at our hotel, Intercontinental Beachcomber Moorea.

 

Anyone used AmEx Traveler's checks there before?
