concierge question?

Recommended Posts

Just to offset some of the "kid-bashing" I see on these boards, need I remind some that I've seen much more rude behavior from ADULTS on any given cruise be it from loud obnoxious drunks hooping and hollering through the promenade at 3:30 every morning to chair hogging to crowding elevators to vomiting over the railing to arguments while strolling down the hallways. While I've seen a few kids running loosely on occasion, it's nowhere NEAR as annoying as the rude obnoxius adults on board.

BTW: Although I have kids, I've never taken them on a cruise so I have no axe to grind. But if anybody wants adults only cruising, go to HAL.

I must say that while I have seen some adults act inappropriately, I have seem very few of them running up and down the stairs, pushing all of the elevator buttons, cutting in line, etc. I love children too. I have two but I do expect that when there is a place for adults to "Hang out", it will not include children. There are very few places on the ship that this is a requirement and to be honest, I have paid for this right, so I don't think it is too much to ask of others to be respectful of these adult only areas.

Yes, but make a public lounge a child free space! One can always find another lounge if they have kids. However if you make the concierge lounge adults only then a suite passengers traveling with kids who paid the extra expense for a suite will not be able to enjoy this perk. After all these perks are often why one books a suite!!

I hear you but quite frankly, there are tons of places on the ship that children to not frequent to include the many bars and lounges as well as the casino. I honestly do not ever recall seeing children in any of the bars on board. The concierge lounge is a place to relax for C&A members and suite guests AND their children if they so desire with the exception of when they have the open bar. Children have to be accompanied of course.

While I've observed children being children on board, they were minor annoyances compared to some of the racous "adult" behaviors.

I've been kept awake for hours by adults partying on their balcony until sunrise, I've had words with adults "saving" an entire row of lounge chairs for people that never show, I've seen adults engage in screaming matches in the hallways at 3am without regard to anybody else, I've seen adults congregate in large groups in front of elevators when other guests were trying to exit without moving out of the way. The list goes on.

An errant child on occasion pales in comparison.

Thanks. Exactly my point. Accompanied children of suite guests have the right to use the concierge lounge as much as any other guest with the exception of the open bar hours. There are plenty of adults-only spaces where adults can congregate without children.

I also agree to the "no kids during the open bar hours" however the concierge should give us some consideration if I would like to bring 2 drinks back to the cabin for the wife and I and a couple of sodas for the kids!

Agreed. I'm sure it depends on the concierge present. Quite frankly, I don't really understand why they don't allow that. I was told in the past that it was to keep alcohol out of the hands of underaged guests but I actually think it's to keep it from the hands of other guests who should be PAYING for it elsewhere.

I will be sure to grease the concierge the first day and introduce him/her to the family!! Can't hurt! It owuld be nice to enjoy a drink on the balcony.

OK I´ll step in once again with all the kids discussion.

My experience with concierge is of course somewhat limited as I only had it on the Jewel of the Seas, so one ship in the fleet. Here the rule was adults only.

Of course the rule, if ever, has to be enforced by the concierge. So I think it´s up to him what to do. This of course means the rule can only be enforced during the hours of the concierge which will include breakfast time and the bar hours in the evening. All other times no one will have any controll over it as there is no crew in the lounge.

I have no problems with kids anywhere although (JUST MY OPINION) I think especially during the open bar hours the adults only rule is a good thing.

However having said all this I must say that I don´t think the concierge lounge is at all a place for kids to enjoy. It´s a lounge where the adults meet and talk and have a drink. There is nothing to entertain children in there. So I doubt that many kids will happily spend much time in there. There are other places onboard for them to have fun. I might be wrong as I don´t have kids but if I were a kid I wouldn´t like it I think.

BTW on the Radiance class I think it´s a nice room with a great look out but during the open bar hours it gets crowded very easily as it´s not very big. I know that sometimes the Yacht Club on the Jewel (which is located just outside the Lounge) was often used as additional seating space.

;) So who would know if you had your drink there or took it from there to your room.

Cruise182:

I think you won´t have a problem at all as I assume you´ll much more enjoy your drink in your RS than the lounge and from reading other posts here you´ll have free sodas in your room for your kids as well as a stocked bar for yourself.

Enjoy this great Suite:)

Can platinum C & A members get into these lounges?

(This is beachchick)

No. Grand Suite or above and C&A Diamond or Diamond+ are the only ones granted access. Also, (just so you know) if someone is travelling in a GS and has friends travelling in an inside cabin (for example), the friends in the inside do not have access to the Concierge lounge either. Those with access don't have a free pass to bring their friends. Bummer, but that's the only way it can work (and the only way that it's fair, IMO).

We were on AOS this past January. We were only aware of a child in the lounge one time. This is why we noticed him. The parents were sitting on a couch totally oblivious -- yet watching -- to make sure he didn't fall off the back of the couch on which he was climbing. It was cocktail hour and he went to get something from the buffet himself. This child was no more than 4 or 5. Remember, the parents are sitting in a fog on a couch supposedly watching him. He takes things from the steamers on the buffet (he shouldn't burn himself...) looks at it and puts it back. He did this a number of times. Not only did the parents not even bat an eye, the concierge pretended not to notice it.

I'm sure there were other children in and out of the lounge during our visits, but I didn't notice them. They were probably sitting with their parents and having a soft drink or snack.

A bar of any kind is an inappropriate place to bring minors. An open bar, especially. No one tends the bar and a teenager could come and take whatever he or she wanted. I think coming in with a young child for a quick drink and snack for the kid is okay. They always have water and sodas -- maybe some juice; not sure about milk. In the evenings they always had some appetizers, fruit and cheese. This lounge is a place to unwind from a long day or get ready for the evening ahead.

I am going to get bashed for this, I know, but here goes... If you are in a suite with a very young child, go ahead and bring them to the lounge for a few moments so you can have your drink, snack, whatever. If your child is of an age where they can be alone for a few minutes in the suite, then it is probably okay to leave them alone in the cabin for a little while. Just remember where they are! It is your responsibility to make sure your children behave accordingly on their vacation. I can't believe that a parent would take a child into a bar or lounge on dry land so they could "unwind" while the kid runs amuck.

And, yes. I have a son. He is nearly 22 now and has been on his share of cruises before he was a teenager. I would have been absolutely mortified if he ever did something that he shouldn't.(don't get me started on the french fries at Denny's incident!!;) )

I really don't have a problem with kids in the lounge (maybe it's because I'm one :)).

However, that 4-5 year old should've been taken care of by his parents. The only times I really used the lounge was with my dad before dinner (mom wanted the cabin to herself to change for dinner) and we had some sodas and appetizers.
