Michael. If your cruise does not make any other stops in Turkey AND you are planning on departing Istanbul on the same day as your cruise ends, then you MAY be able to avoid the Visa. Otherwise, you need one.

LEESRE Posted June 17, 2013 #4 Share Posted June 17, 2013 We have just done this cruise, yes you will need a Turkish Visa and you can get one online from the Turkish embassey. Or ask Oceania for your Passport when you reach Marmaris and you can get one in the port. Don't let Oceania get them for you as they charge around 49 dollars and you can get them much cheaper, for UK residents it is £10. Enjoy the cruise , we did. RJB Posted June 17, 2013 #5 Share Posted June 17, 2013 At this point in time why would anyone want to go to Turkey? Daily riots in the streets. I sure would not feel safe and would not want to visit most of the important sites. Save your money and try again next year. :)
loubylou Posted June 18, 2013 Author #6 Share Posted June 18, 2013 Thank you all for your help, i can understand the view that it is not the best time to visit turkey but we paid in full a while back. Redtravel Posted June 20, 2013 #7 Share Posted June 20, 2013 You need the visa. When you fly in, you will be directed to immigration. JUst prior to the immigration line, you will see a place to buy a visa. $20 USD and they stamp your passport with the required visa. They ask nothing. It is so easy. Do not pay the fee to the cruiseline. You can get it without any problem.

The OP's Cruise is originating in ATHENS, they don't sell Turkish Visa's in the Airport there
Lola911 Posted June 20, 2013 #9 Share Posted June 20, 2013 Do not worry about riot unrest in Istanbul as long as you stay in Sultanamett/Old City. Taksim Square/riots is quite far from the old town. We loved that area and the restaurants. Sorry about the spelling.
