best way from CT to Bayonne

Is it cheaper to drive to the port, park and pay 19 per day. Or is there a less expensive way.

Unless the cruise line runs a free or reduced bus(and some do),

if you have to pay for the bus its normally about $100 round trip so unless you are only one person, self drive is less expensive but more hassle than the bus-although the bus has its own hassles. Public mass transit is not easy from CT.

If you are near a Amtrak stop you could Amtrak to Penn Station change to the Path(port Authority trans hudson communter train to NJ) to Jersey City or Hoboken. Outside the PATH Station, take the NJ Hudson-Bergen Light Rail train to Bayonne. Get off at the 34th Street Station in Bayonne. You are now directly across Route 440 from The Peninsula at Bayonne Harbor, which includes the Cape Liberty Cruise Port. Call one of the three Bayonne cab companies to drive you to the cruise port, which is about two miles east of the Light Rail line.

You can also take the commuter train to Grand Central and then a cab to either the the Path train(then follow the directions above) or the Port Authority Bus terminal and then From the Port Authority Bus Terminal, take the 99S bus to Bayonne. The 99S bus travels along Kennedy Boulevard into Bayonne and stops on request every three blocks. When you reach 33rd Street and Kennedy Boulevard in Bayonne, you will be at the closest point on the bus route to the cruise port. Call one of the three Bayonne cab companies to drive you to the cruise port, which is about three miles east of Kennedy Boulevard.

BTW taking a taxi or car service from either Penn Station or Grand Central won't save you any money. NY Yellow cabs don't have to go to Bayonne and the going rate is about $100 for them to do so when you find one that will do so. A car service will be less but probably in the $75 range and that is each way. You could do to Newark's penn Station on Amtrak and the cab each way is about $60. none of which is less than parking at the pier.

Of course the least expensive way is for some close friend/relative to drive you there and drop you off and pick you up=but that has other costs inhered in it(you have to do the same or similar for them).

btw I knew the a above I looked it up make sure and here is what I found. It includes driving directions if you need them.

The answer is probably yes to your question, but it does depend on:

1). The length of the cruise.

2). The number of people

3). Exactly where you are coming from in CT

4). The amount of hassle you are willing to put up with to get to the port.

Entertainment tours runs cruise bus service to Bayonne for $110/pp. This is a competitve deal for one or two people, but only if you can get dropped off in Hartford, New Haven, New London, or Bridgeport and don't have to pay to park in one of those cities.

Public transit is another option, but usually not one that folks want to consider.

We take AMTRAK from Wallingford to Newark/Penn station then taxi to pier. On return trip we got a shared van that went to Newark Airport & Penn station. It was slightly less expensive than the bus option and we arrived at port by 11 AM. No worries about traffic and the trains are very comfortable.

what did the cab charge you? I am told its 50-60 plus tolls and tip each way...there is a shuttle back for about $17pp.

The cab was total $46 (the meter read $26 but we knew before going that the total was $46); I believe it was because he would not have a fare going back to Newark/Penn. We did take the shared ride after debark. It was $17pp to Penn, $16pp to airport; stopped at both places.
