eandj Posted July 5, 2014 #52 Share Posted July 5, 2014 (edited)
We brought a bottle of spirits on board from Florence and no one said a word.
I think that enforcement of this policy depends on port, date, ship, time of boarding etc. Seems some "get lucky" and others are stopped. As long as the "carrier" knows the policy and then accepts consequences if stopped, no harm trying, I guess.:o We had a bottle of limoncello given to us from our (private )tour guide in Sorrento. It was taken from us on boarding. But...returned the last afternoon. So we had it on time to have a predinner get together with our tour mates. Actually worked out well. dateacher Posted July 6, 2014 #53 Share Posted July 6, 2014 (edited) Someone mentioned that the wine glasses were different but are the water glasses different? The cruise will be following a trip to Las Vegas where I never think about walking around with my drink. eandj Posted July 6, 2014 #54 Share Posted July 6, 2014 (edited) Water glasses in the cabins are basic. Other glasses are used in the restaurant and bars. I honestly have never noticed on any HAl ship or any cruiseline for that matter, what kind of glass anyone is holding. What difference does it make? If you are carrying a glass of wine or a mixed drink from/to your room, another bar or a restaurant who really cares or notices? (I thought there were only clothing police out there;) Unless one is carrying a poured drink ( soda and coffee included) causing perhaps a spilled drink on ME, , it isn't a concern to me. (Volendam-Alaska)
Now that's where I see it a ton. Anywhere near/in the casinos, lots of people are changing games/tables while taking their drink along. It is VERY common. And expected. In elevators? Not so much, but yes you see it as people go back to their rooms.
dateacher Posted July 6, 2014 #56 Share Posted July 6, 2014 To EANDJ my question was because I don't want to walk out of my room with a glass of scotch and have someone from the cruiseline tell me I can't take drinks out of my room (as I have read elsewhere). It's not a big deal but since I do it in one place (Vegas) I just wondered if it can be done on a ship.

I'd say that's one policy that would be hard to enforce and not worth the staff's time. You will see some people moving around with drinks. We end up carrying from one public room to another on occasion.
dateacher Posted July 7, 2014 #58 Share Posted July 7, 2014 Thanks. I thought it would be difficult to enforce and probably not worth their time. We are not trying to eliminate all bar purchases but if I pour a drink in the cabin and need to leave, I hate to throw it out.
