Online Registration Question

Doing a Gem Canada/New England cruise in September. Three of the people in our group have no passports and would rather not have to get them. I understand that for this cruise they can use birth certificates & driver's licenses in lieu of passports. What I am asking is how do they handle that when they fill out the online check-in? I don't remember what the screen looked like when I did ours :P. There is no air travel involved in that we are taking bus to and from pier. Thanks.

It is not just a matter of leaving a passport number field blank. The online check in form asks what proof of citizenship the passenger is using. One of the choices is "birth certificate", so they would select that option when filling out the form. The passport number field should not even appear once you've selected "birth certificate".
