antoniusp Posted July 9, 2013 #1 Share Posted July 9, 2013 Any idea where I can lay my hands on a few bottles when in Marseille? Many thanks
Rare Hlitner Posted July 9, 2013 #2 Share Posted July 9, 2013 You can buy wine at lots of places in Marseille and France. But you might want to take the long walk over to the Carrefour Market on Rue d'Orange. Carrefour has pretty decent prices on wine and is always fine unless you happen to stumble on a cute wine store. DW and I are both oenophiles but have never gotten overly excited about the Roses. But some of the Tavel offerings are quite fine :) Hank
Rare marazul Posted July 9, 2013 #3 Share Posted July 9, 2013 Look for roses from Bandol. The roses from St Tropez are very good too. The Bellets (smallest appellation controlee in France, just above Nice) are excellent, if you can find them. And the Carrefour or Casino supermarkets do have a good selection and good prices. Thanks for that info. Have never tried a Rose from the Bellets area...and will now look for one of their wines to give it a try :) Hank
Rare marazul Posted July 10, 2013 #5 Share Posted July 10, 2013 Thanks for that info. Have never tried a Rose from the Bellets area...and will now look for one of their wines to give it a try :) Hank There are three main vineyards in Bellet: Ch de Bellet, Ch de Cremat and another one I can't remember right now. They also make a nice red. Historically, these are some of the oldest vineyards in France, from around the 3rd C BC. There used to be a really good restaurant in St Roman-du-Bellet with a wonderful terrace (haven't been there in a few years). Next time you have a car in Nice take a drive to the hills for a really good lunch and nice views. The wines are hard to find, but amazingly, I have bought them in the Casino supermarket in Cros de Cagnes (near the Marina Baie des Anges). Rare Hlitner Posted July 10, 2013 #7 Share Posted July 10, 2013 Getting ready to sit down for dinner (at home) and sure wish we had a bottle of a Bellet Rose to sample. This is going to haunt me until I can get my hands (and mouth) on a bottle of that stuff :) Hank
