Final Bill different from credit card statement

Recommended Posts

Last time we asked for the mini bar fridge to be emptied. Not sure if they will still do that .

Does anyone who has cruised recently asked for this to be done ?

I asked on our last cruise in April on the Explorer to have the frige emptied. The cabin attendant told me that as of Jan. they were no longer allowed to empty the frig. He gave me a plastic bag so that I could do it. I emptied the frig. so that we could use it for water. I put everything back in the frig. on the last night of the cruise. It worked out OK. We weren't charged for anything.

You aren't the only one who has reported this. I'm relatively new to the RCI boards and I've seen several threads about this. Guess I'll need to double check the credit card bill after.

Where did they put the drinks when you've asked them to do this? I've seen lots of folks say that they just put the drinks on a counter in your stateroom. Seems like it defeats the purpose.

Our steward put them in a bag under the bed on Allure. We were never charged.

Our first cruise, we saw charges on their and didn't have a clue what it was, DH went down to Guest Relations to ask, it was the gratuity, boy did we feel stupid.:o:D Jo, was that done so he could put them back for the next cruise, and they are right there for him/her to grab.

Any transaction that occurs while on board where your SeaPass card is swiped will result in you having to sign and then receiving a copy for your records.

Do pool towel stations require signatures and give receipts???

Having never "checked" out a pool towel, I don't know. I guess if you "purchased" one, then yes you would get a receipt.:D I guess I should have included the word "cash" in front of transaction.:o

And how is Mr. E doing today??

No. When we turn in towels the last time, we ask them to look up our account and confirm the towel count is zero, however no receipt is given.

Doing great, thanks. Last time on Monarch as D+ we had a note in the cabin saying the room attendant would provide the towels. He said no, we needed to get them ourselves. Needed the card to get and return towels. No signature required and no receipt given.

Did that and got home to find a towel charge on the credit card a few weeks later. Took several calls to get the incorrect charges removed.

Sad thing is you could buy brand new logo towels through gifts and geat for less than the ugly stained ones they try to bill you for.

We even had several of the embroidered ones you get free as the D+ amenity.

Poor customer service and frustrating in my opinion.

I inventory the contents of the mini-bar as soon as I can after boarding. I have found things missing but, when brought to the attention of the room steward, have not been charged for it.

The F&B lady emptied mine in April on the Navigator of the Seas TA. Maybe it is just the room steward that can't empty it, it has to be the F&B crew member.

Since we got that charge on our emptied minibar, I now take a very close look at the contents, before I have it emptied. Although (unlike hotels) there is no written list to compare the contents to, they tend to cram those little fridges chock-full of stuff. If there are any gaps, I ask the steward to make sure nothing is missing, when they empty it.

And, although I haven't cruised RC for a couple of years, on our last two cruises it was like pulling hens' teeth to get anyone to empty our minibar. The room stewards said it was no longer their job, but they would notify the bar-man who stocks the fridges. When we didn't hear from him, DH called housekeeping, with no results. On day two, he finally went down to GS and stood in line to insist that they send someone to empty it. On Celebrity, sometimes the steward or butler will ask if we have any empty storage space in the cabin that they can use -- but, they always empty the fridge immediately upon request.

And the same thing happened to all the other people on this thread.

Look, I'm not saying mistakes can't happen. I'm just saying that your theory is not the only possibility.

It is entirely possible that things were added to your bill in order to defraud you.

Here again, I think it was an oversight, pure and simple. Perhaps the last occupant of the cabin got thirsty on the morning of departure, and it was overlooked by the steward. And, I guess anything is possible -- but, in 12 years of sailing RC and X, I've never had anything stolen, and any erroneous charges I have found on my bills have been promptly removed. If I thought anyone on those cruise lines was out to cheat or steal from me, I'd have found another cruise line, long ago!

  • 2 weeks later...

Well.. this took A LOT longer than I anticipated... but I wanted to follow up.

We debarked the Enchantment on Monday, July 8th. It was not until last night (7/25/13) that the charges were posted to my account... and I've been checking every day! I've never seen it take this long - over 2-1/2 weeks, and was wondering if it had "slipped between the cracks"!

Anyone else experienced that kind of delay? Both our Oasis and Allure sailings earlier this year (on the same bank card) posted within TWO DAYS of getting off those ships.

Nonetheless, the amount charged was exactly the same as the final statement left at our door the last night of the cruise.

We've never had that kind of delay. I normally see the SeaPass charge show up as "pending" on the same day we leave the ship. Within 3 business days, the charge goes from pending to posted.

I had thought perhaps I got "lucky" in the casino after all... and briefly wondered why I had not charged more chips to my card! :D

Tom, I apologize for changing the subject, but I noticed your location says Viera. I saw that there was a Total Wine store there now. Do you have a feel for how far it is from Port Canaveral?

It's an easy drive (528/Beachline to I-95). It shows as 29 miles, but don't let that dissuade you! If you follow THIS map/link from Google you'll pass right by our neighborhood on Stadium Parkway.

Thanks! This will help for our Enchantment cruise in September.

My pleasure! I just noticed (upon closer inspection) that the Google route is more direct, taking you to the next exit south on 95, thus bypassing Stadium Parkway, LOL!

Have a great time!

I can't help but think it must be profitable for the cruise lines to keep the mini bars. It sounds like RCI does this and so does NCL and CCL. With all the cutbacks that cruising has faced over the last few years I would think if it wasn't profitable it would be gone. Someone must be using it.

I hate to say this but I wonder if the extra charges for the mini bar might be a scam. :(. I also wonder if they might be owned by a company other than RC, like the spas. On our last cruise, we were charged for items we didn't use and had to call to get them removed. There are probably people who don't check their statement. It also annoys me, when someone knocks on the cabin door and says they want to check the mini bar.

We've also had this happen in hotels, after we returned the mini bar keys to the front desk. Once, I had to protest charges to the credit card company.
