orchestrapal Posted July 23, 2013 #26 Share Posted July 23, 2013 With ships' tours you'll spend more, see less, sit on a bus with thirty other people and are stuck with their itinerary. Private tours are a no brainer. Very well said! in addition you don't have to waste time with the dreaded shopping. :D
chaswill Posted July 27, 2013 Author #27 Share Posted July 27, 2013 This is for Gail Boertzel...Yes, Oceania provided or at least paid for the shuttles and they ran every 15-30 minutes depending on the port....very convenient!
Rare Caroldoll Posted July 29, 2013 #28 Share Posted July 29, 2013 One thing for future cruisers going to SPB, when we did this, we took a tour (ships) up to Moscow. It was expensive and involved a flight. We left very, very early in the morning and did not get back until 2 AM the following morning. This was the trip of a lifetime and if anyone is considering it--do it--it is fabulous.
wripro Posted July 29, 2013 #29 Share Posted July 29, 2013 I did the day trip to Moscow too (on another line) and it was spectacular. However, it was on my third Baltic cruise and I had already seen all the sights in ST. Petersburg, most twice. I would not recommend the day trip to Moscow for someone on his first trip to St. Petersburg as three days is barely enough to scratch the surface there. travler95242 Posted March 24, 2015 #30 Share Posted March 24, 2015 This is just what I had been looking for. Thank you for such a great review. I was wondering if Oceania would provided transportation into town and you answered that. Also, in the future you might try shoretrips.com for excursions. They have both private and group excursions and do one, two and three day tours in St. Petersburg. We are doing a back to back on the Marina. Have you gone from London to Liverpool, Ireland, Scotand, and the other ports? Thank you again for such a great review.

Traveler: Check out the Roll Calls for the 2 cruises that you will be on- there are plenty of discussions regarding private tours.
