Greencay Posted July 28, 2013 #1 Share Posted July 28, 2013 A couple of questions regarding planning for a couple of days in Venice after cruising on the Riviera. Where does Oceania dock? What transportation choices are available from pier? What area in Venice (Hotel) is convenient to Pier and Airport transportation?

What transportation choices are available from pier? What area in Venice (Hotel) is convenient to Pier and Airport transportation? They dock in the Maritima Terminal. Likely you will uses Terminal 107/108. Lots of ways to get their. Water Taxi, Alilaguna, Valparreto or the people mover from the Train Station. We just came back and used the Alilaguna because they will handle the luggage for you. Any place were there is a Taxi or Alilaguna. Our favorite for location is San Marco or San Zaccaria only because it is close to the action. Also you can take the Alilaguna from the Pier to your hotel and then from the hotel to airport and it is priced reasonably. Here is a great link for all things Venice. http://europeforvisitors.com/venice/
Earl Rosebery Posted July 28, 2013 #3 Share Posted July 28, 2013 The area most convenient to the port and airport is the piazza de Roma area. It is quickly accessible from the port by tram. (The People Mover) . From there to the airport is by bus or taxi. The tram doesn't go to the train station. From P. de Roma to St mark's is a pleasant 30 minute walk or a trip on the no 1 or 2 vaporetto. A vaporetto pass is the most sensible and efficient way to see Venice. Use it as you would use a HoHo bus in other cities. The alilaguna water buses are convenient from the port to St. Mark's but are slow ( over an hour) to the airport. If you are going to the airport from anywhere other than P. de Roma, a water taxi is a real treat.

Can we get Vaparetto into Venice from where Riviera will dock or will we need to take people mover. We have only embarked in Venice previously when we used water taxis. Thanks Al

What transportation choices are available from pier? What area in Venice (Hotel) is convenient to Pier and Airport transportation? We stayed at the hotelcanalgrande.it (sister hotel to Hotel Antiche Figure) Both come highly recommended on TripA.It is within walking distance to the Piazza Roma where you can take the bus to the airport (under 8E?). Can walk to the hotel from the ship as long as you have no more than a couple of carry-ons..the steps and bridges are tricky to maneuver with luggage. Many transportation choices, the vaporetto pass is inexpensive & convinient with many routes & stops. Most hotels offer a free complimentary water taxi to Murano, then you can hop over to Burano, then on to StMarco etc....using your vaporetto pass. Very nice city to walk & HOHO the vaporettos, easy DYI city.
JPR Posted July 30, 2013 #6 Share Posted July 30, 2013 It's the Piazzele Roma, which is also near the airport, and you can take a vaporetto and the people mover but there is a direct boat to the ship from San Marco for 8 Euros pp. Ask the Destination staff for details.
