riversights Posted July 31, 2013 #1 Share Posted July 31, 2013 Have you connected with the American Queen via AMTRAK at Red Wing Minnesota? If so, how did that work out? Has anyone utilized the St. James Hotel to do this? If you are able to answer with keen observations on any of the above, you win today's dark chocolate truffle.:D
Rare steamboats Posted August 1, 2013 #2 Share Posted August 1, 2013 riversights, The St. James Hotel might be a great start for a river cruise as it has lots of pictures and stuff from the steamboat area. I´ve never stayed there but according to friends it used to be good. steamboats
Calliope Posted August 7, 2013 #3 Share Posted August 7, 2013 The Chicago bound EMPIRE BUILDER comes through Red Wing during the morning. The train station is just a stones throw from where the boat lands and a few short blocks from the St. James Hotel. riversights Posted August 7, 2013 Author #4 Share Posted August 7, 2013 Just as you noted, the Empire Builder does pass by the St. James going and coming. We observed this ourselves a couple of weeks ago. Is it too far-fetched to try to meet the American Queen at Red Wing, rather than St. Paul? I realize this would be ala carte. Just wondering...
