We thought about renting a car last year, but ended up booking a private tour to Etna and Taormina with Sicily Limousine Service http://www.sicilylimousineservice.com/sicily/index.asp. It was a good decision because at that time, we'd have had to go to the airport to pickup/return the rental car. Our tour was excellent and reasonably priced for 6 people.

 

If you did mean Catania, you might have better feedback posting on the Italy forum.....
