babygirl722 Posted August 10, 2013 #1 Share Posted August 10, 2013 Can someone tell me when Lobster Night is? For a long while, it was the first night of sailing but have now heard from a friend who recently sailed that it was the second night. Unfortunately, NCL Customer Service isn't very helpful but I know my fellow Cruise Critic members will be! Thanks a million.
niiaka Posted August 10, 2013 #2 Share Posted August 10, 2013 I was searching for this info too-all I could find was Lobster is only served on the 2nd night in the BUFFET..lol odd right?
OnTheGoMom921 Posted August 10, 2013 #3 Share Posted August 10, 2013 On our sailing, 6/23 there was no lobster night at all. Although, more recently, reports state that lobster was served in the buffet only, not in any MDR's. Maybe this is an attempt from NCL to "redirect" the huge crowds and long wait times from the Manhattan Room we have read about.

babygirl722 Posted August 10, 2013 Author #5 Share Posted August 10, 2013 That really is incredible. I would love to get confirmation from NCL but as I said, the reps don't seem to know that much.

kcwingwalker Posted August 10, 2013 #7 Share Posted August 10, 2013 More than a few recent reviews have confirmed that lobster night has disappeared. That's the best looking lobster I've ever seen! And certainly bigger than the lobster currently/formerly served on NCL.
jame_g Posted August 10, 2013 #8 Share Posted August 10, 2013 My guess would be that they are getting fewer complaints by not serving it, than the number of complaints received over the lobster meal they were serving.

KJE Atlanta Posted August 10, 2013 #10 Share Posted August 10, 2013 everywhere I have read shows Lobster back in MDRs 1st night only problem was 6/23 cruise I could be wrong here, but my impression from what I have read on CC (not every thread or post though) is that the Breakaway has done away with lobster (surf and turf) on the first night, but the rest of the fleet still offers it. Can anyone confirm that based on recent experience? We're on the Jade in a couple weeks, so I'd love to know the answer. ;)

NJ Johnny Posted August 10, 2013 #12 Share Posted August 10, 2013 We were on the Breakaway on the June 30 sailing. There was no lobster served in the MDR on our sailing. Instead there was lobster served in the Buffet on the second night - all you can eat.

Just off the Gem today and.... YES lobster first night MDR surf and turf--was very good :) But sorry to say many changes on the Gem... especially in the casino, front desk guest services, and the meals--cut backs everywhere. Still we all had a wonderful cruise Safe sailing
Shortys571 Posted August 10, 2013 #14 Share Posted August 10, 2013 Lobster is by far one of the most over rated things on this planet. I eat it. But I don't get how people go nuts over it.

Nickels and dimes are not that big of a deal to some people, but I still do not like it when they get taken away.
KJE Atlanta Posted August 10, 2013 #16 Share Posted August 10, 2013 Lobster is by far one of the most over rated things on this planet. I eat it. But I don't get how people go nuts over it. I would imagine that lobster done right is very good by most objective opinions. A couple years ago on NCL the lobsters we had were small, overcooked, rubbery and mediocre at best. Last year on our Epic sailings and then this year on the Sky and the Breakaway, the lobsters have been much bigger, cooked properly, and overall very good. We eat in specialty restaurants most nights, but if the lobster is being served and it is being done like it has been on our last 3 or 4 cruises, it's definitely worth it, in our opinion, to go the MDR that night. I bet there are some things that you really like and look forward to eating that I or others would call overrated or feel blah about. Everyone has different tastes. Kimf Posted August 10, 2013 #20 Share Posted August 10, 2013 We sailed on the Jewel on June 28th to Alaska and they had lobster the first night in the MDR. I thought it was good enough for not having to pay extra for it. My son was thrilled to try it and liked his first experience with it. Bummer if they don't do that anymore. We are sailing the Getaway in March.
tx121 Posted August 11, 2013 #21 Share Posted August 11, 2013 Lobster was a poor mans food back in the day it seems. Sucks industries have made it more "luxury" than it really is. cruisendave Posted August 11, 2013 #22 Share Posted August 11, 2013 On our recent Breakaway sailing (July 28-august 4) there was no lobster in the MDR. There was a note in the Freestlyle Daily on the second night about lobster dishes in the Garden Cafe, which we did not bother worrying about. We only ate at La Cucina, which had no lobster tail on the menu, but we wouldn't expect it at an Itailian restaurant. It is fun looking forward to a lobster dinner on your cruise, but it doesn't make or break our vacation. Glad we enjoyed it on Royal last year! BUT depending on your cruise, it might not be surf and turf because Jade's itineraries are designed so that they will work as B2Bs and hence they will do the full 14-day rotation of menus that are fleetwide. We sailed on Jul 19 and had the another dish (had menu #8 on embarkation night) which was "seafood extravaganza" or something like that.
babygirl722 Posted August 14, 2013 Author #24 Share Posted August 14, 2013 Thanks everyone. Would LOVE to hear from someone just off the Breakaway about this. It certainly won't make or break my cruise, but if they are serving it, I'd like to enjoy it and make sure that I don't have reservations for a specialty restaurant that evening. I was on the Gem in February and the lobster was excellent; in fact, it was the best we ever had on a cruise.
