Also, we are planning on being on that sailing too. We have not booked yet, but that is looking like the next one we will take. We want to do an eastern/bahama's cruise because we've done the two western routes already.

Just booked the Marriott on canal st for $70+tax on priceline! Normal rate was $249

We have stayed at the Hilton Riverside and the Marriott Convention Center. The Marriott was so convenient. Right across the street from the port.

We have never been to NO and we are cruising out of NOLA on 2/2/14, we are planning on arriving that Saturday and staying one night. I have been looking at the Crowne Plaza, on the corner of Canal and Bourbon Street. The room starts at $217, but for one night and to be in the middle of all of the action, it seemed worth it.

 

Anyone been or have any thoughts?

Thanks. I think that settles it, nice to have some confirmation, though most of the reviews I have seen on expedia and trip advisor were positive.

We like the Drury. We eat lunch at a really nice restaurant and then snack at the Drury happy hour for dinner. We skip the free breakfast, and go to Mothers, which is just down the stret.

We are cruising out of New Orleans in December and we are booked at the Sleep Inn and Suites in Metairie. We got a great rate

I have stayed at the Olivier House right smack in the quarter about a block from Bourbon in a 200 year old building with a courtyard and all that jazz.

But I don't recommend it to most folks.

It is truly quirky New Orleans and definitely the very definition of shabby chic and every room is totally different.

If you have an adventurous nature you might want to check it out.

 

When we drive in we have started staying outside New Orleans in Hammond or McComb and driving in the morning of the cruise.

We have sailed out of NOLA a couple of times. We have stayed at the waldorf and holiday in french quarter. Both were great, right in the middle of the action. The holiday inn does have a cruise and park rate.

We stayed at Country Inns & Suites in January. It isn't in the middle of Bourbon St and we liked it that way. Very nice hotel and when we cruise out of NOLA again in May 2014 we will stay there again..

Prytania Park Hotel

 

We love that place! DH and I stayed there long before we were married. Probably 15-16 years ago now. The staff was so nice and friendly, and we even walked to the FQ from there. A friend of mine had to live there for 9 months after she lost her house in Katrina and her FEMA trailer never showed up.

 

It's very easy to catch a cab there, because there's a cab company right around the corner. It's right on the edge of the Garden District, but still quite residential.

We've stayed at Hilton Riverside, the W, Marriot Convention Center, Harrah's, and a few others in the French Quarter. I'm just not a fan of staying there, however, because it's so crowded (I know, that's what most people like, lol).

 

I like staying at Homewood Suites in Slidell. It's a nice, easy drive to the terminal, a great location, and Slidell is a nice area.

...Thanks for the positive confirmation. Staying there for the first time for our Feb. 2014 Sunshine cruise. Looking forward to the "boutique" style hotel and getting away from the "big box chain" hotels. Got a rate of $118+tx (staying one night precruise/no car) which seemed reasonable. Looked like a great location with easy access to Bourbon St., the Garden District, Harrah's Casino and the cruise terminal.

We are staying one night, pre-cruise at The Saint on Canal. Looks like a fun place, suits our personalities, great location! Our first NOLA trip, just a day in town (land at 11:30 Saturday), but we figure we can see a few sights and plan for a longer trip in the near future.

 

Question: Our cruise departs on a day that includes a noon-start home game for the Saints. Does anyone with experience leaving on a day with that happening in town have any recommendations? Should we try to get to the port before the game starts? Are we smarter trying to get a cab nearer to or after 12 pm? We aren't in any crazy rush to get on board, and we want to get a Sunday morning Café Du Monde experience covered before we board.
