ladybird1956 Posted September 11, 2013 #1 Share Posted September 11, 2013 Does anyone know if there is access to the aft deck on the Verandah deck of the Statendam? We have an inside room, number 112, and I want to know if we can access that little outside area at the back of the ship. This will be our first Inside room, and I'm wondering what it will be like...
Krazy Kruizers Posted September 11, 2013 #2 Share Posted September 11, 2013 Yes -- you can go out to the aft on that deck. It is not large. Some of the ships used to have loungers back there -- a few. I don't know if the Statendam still has them or not.

Not a deep deck but we did think it would be a good place for viewing in the rain or sun as it is mostly covered. Wonderful view from up on high. 112 is a nice, big inside (about 185 square feet), very well poitioned re stairs and elevators. Two decks up to the food! Three cupboards, six large drawers, so lots of storage (also two small drawers in each night table). The batroom has been renovated: the sinlk counter is huge, but the wall shelving is just shelving, not a cupboard with a door. Shower has the most insane control: temperature adjustment, but no flow adjustment. No noise problems in this area. You don't say when you sail, but right now you would have the best room stewards. Any further questions on the Statendam, please ask. We are just off.
Krazy Kruizers Posted September 11, 2013 #4 Share Posted September 11, 2013 Were there any lounge chairs or benches to sit on?
SilvertoGold Posted September 11, 2013 #5 Share Posted September 11, 2013 Were there any lounge chairs or benches to sit on? No, but I do know there used to be. This was one of the "crew" decks where some of the dancer/singers would sunbathe regularily on longer cruises.
FRANKIEDNYC Posted September 11, 2013 #6 Share Posted September 11, 2013 :) In February there were recliners there, but people may have dragged them down from the aft pool area
Krazy Kruizers Posted September 11, 2013 #7 Share Posted September 11, 2013 It has been a while since we were on the Statendam and I do remember loungers being there.
garydm Posted September 11, 2013 #8 Share Posted September 11, 2013 There used to be loungers there and it was a favorite spot for ship officers' families to hang out when they were on board.
ladybird1956 Posted September 11, 2013 Author #9 Share Posted September 11, 2013 Thanks for such a detailed reply! Were you in that exact room? How serendipitous! Can I ask a few more questions, then: Was there a hair dryer? Wine glasses (for sharing a bottle on that aft deck!)?

Just ask the room stewards for wine glasses. We tend write brief notes and put them on the bed for any requests: it can be useful to bring a small writing pad for this purpose. ladybird1956 Posted September 12, 2013 Author #11 Share Posted September 12, 2013 OK, I am obviously severely challenged with my ship geography. 112 is at the front of the ship, correct? (memo to self: the top of the diagram is the prow, bottom is the aft) We will be more or less under the bridge, is that right? I think I need this vacation more than I realized... pbnjrockette Posted September 12, 2013 #12 Share Posted September 12, 2013 First time sailing on the Statendam. Love to cruise but get sick on any kind of rough sea. Have chosen a low level mid-cabin to hopefully alleviate any discomfort (767). Reading up now on "all things Holland America".
