I can only assume that when Carnival Legend has a stint in Austrlia that all on board purchases will be in USD.

Interesting question I would like to know the answer to I was on carnival spirit in march / April this year and they took Aussie dollar :)

I'm sure the onboard account will be in AUD.

It has a stint down under in 2014-15 summer season and then leaves but comes back for an "extended" stay in Oct 2015 so you would assume they will not "Aussiefy" her until then?

Probably not the full 'Aussiefication', but I'd expect onboard accounts to be handled in AUD as part of the operations while she is here. Bookings for the first stay have also been brought under Australian operations so no reason to think that onboard accounts will be left abroad.
