poly3503 Posted September 16, 2013 #1 Share Posted September 16, 2013 My friend wants to cruise Alaska next summer. High on her list is to see the majestic snow covered mountains. Unfortunately, she cannot travel until late June or after. What are her chances of seeing snow? Thanks!
trophy_23 Posted September 16, 2013 #2 Share Posted September 16, 2013 Based on the trips we've done (May, July, Sept) I would say if she is wanting to see snow down to the waterline in Glacier bay etc the earlier the better. May was white to the waterline when we went, July there was snow on the peaks, by Sept it was pretty green. With so many glaciers she will see snow/ice it just might be higher up the mountains. Budget Queen Posted September 17, 2013 #3 Share Posted September 17, 2013 Most of the Inside Passage is green, in your timeframe. The "snow" in the mts. is May, into earlier June. Glaciers will be seen, but aren't really in any comparison to the snow of early season.
mapleleaves Posted September 17, 2013 #4 Share Posted September 17, 2013 I gather this is a RT cruise. Whether she departs from Vancouver or Seattle, she'll find plenty of snow in the mountains only a few hrs from either city. Vancouver ... Whistler Seattle .... 1 hr to Snoqualmie Pass, 3 hrs to Mt Rainier
