Considering a BX gty.... Are there a lot of balcony rooms to be avoided on spirit?

Lots with obstructions?

Long walks are fine and happy with any motion.

Any areas of this class of ship to be avoided in case I select a specific room?

Any really good rooms to look for?

Picking the Best Cabins on the Norwegian Spirit

Deck-by-Deck Breakdown of the Best and Worst Cabins onboard the Norwegian Spirit

Deck 4

Staterooms on the Norwegian Spirit's Deck 4 have cabins above them, which means they are typically quieter compared to cabins beneath the disco or sunbathing areas (the noise of moving deck chairs late at night / early in the AM).

  • Forward, inside stateroom 4479 is oddly shaped and quite spacious compared to other interior cabins on Deck 4 of the Norwegian Spirit.
  • Ocean view cabin 4498 is almost twice the standard size.
  • Least recommended cabin on Deck 4 of the Norwegian Spirit is interior stateroom 4577 because it is next to elevators and could have noise issues.

Deck 5

On the Norwegian Spirit's Deck 5, most of the staterooms have cabins above and beneath to buffer noises from public areas. Staterooms on this deck are worth considering for economy minded travelers!

  • Inside cabin 5035 is larger than average, but it's located by a stairwell and could have noise issues.
  • There are several ocean view cabins (5500- 5612 port side and 5000- 5100 starboard) from which to choose on Deck 5 of the Norwegian Spirit.
  • Aft on Deck 5 of the Norwegian Spirit, Oceanview Staterooms 5600- 5612 port side, 5100 starboard, and interior cabins 5599, 5601, and 5099 are under the general area of the smaller main dining room. There could be noise during dining hours and during the clean-up after each meal. For dinner, the last diners usually exit by 10:30 and there is likely some noise from the clean-up (vacuum cleaners) as late as 11:30. Given that most people don't get back to their cabins to after 11 PM, this shouldn't be a substantial issue. Breakfast typically starts in the main dining room at 7:00 AM, so you might hear some noise above starting then. However, few people go to the main dining room for breakfast, so this should not be a major issue.

Deck 6

Some cabins on this deck with potential problems.

While it is very possible to find peace and quiet in a stateroom on Deck 6 of the Norwegian Spirit, there will be some sections to think twice about. Not everyone relishes the thought of being situated under the casino, for example, because there could be some noises to deal with late at night. However, there are some good cabins to be found on this deck with some careful thought.

  • Forward on Deck 6 of the Norwegian Spirit, exterior cabins 6500- 6530 port side, 6000- 6030 starboard, and inside staterooms 6503- 6519, 6521- 6533, and 6003- 6019 are under the casino, where there could be late night noise issues. If you are light sleeper, you may prefer to find a cabin elsewhere on the ship, bring earplugs, or invest in a wave machine (a sound device available at a specialty retailer like Brookstone -- produces pleasant sounds that can wipe out the unpleasant sounds).
  • Interior cabins 6535 and 6035 are much larger than standard, but may have noise concerns as these are next to stairwells.
  • On Deck 6 of the Norwegian Spirit, exterior staterooms 6560- 6572 and interior cabins 6559, 6561, 6565, 6569, and 6571 are under a bar, and could have noise issues into the wee hours. Once again, light sleepers may want to relocate, bring along earplugs, or invest in a wave machine.
  • Aft on Deck 6 of the Norwegian Spirit, exterior cabins 6560 and 6572 are very near the main dining room. Noise may be a bit of concern as early as 7:00AM, and after 10:30PM when staff are cleaning, but we do not think this is a major problem.
  • The rest of the staterooms and suites on Deck 6 of the Norwegian Spirit are going to be quieter than those just described! Some of the best cabins on this deck are 6532- 6558 and 6576- 6590 port side and 6032- 6090 starboard. Inside cabins in these areas are also going to be quieter.

Deck 8

Several cabins on this deck with potential problems.

Most of the cabins on Deck 8 of the Norwegian Spirit are right above the forward bar and casino area, and could have noise issues late at night as a result!

  • Best cabins to consider on Deck 8 of the Norwegian Star are 8550- 8553 port side and 8050- 8052 starboard. These will be a bit quieter because they are not over the casino bar area.
  • The rest of the staterooms (8500- 8538 port side, 8000- 8038 starboard, and all of the Spirit's Deck 8 inside cabins) happen to be right over the bar and casino. This could be a noise concern until very late at night.
  • If you are looking for an interior cabin, we suggest those on Deck 4, as well as cabin decks above Deck 8 of the Norwegian Spirit.

Deck 9

On Deck 9 of the Norwegian Spirit, there are also several balcony staterooms and inside cabins from which to choose. Deck 9 has the added advantage of cabin decks above and beneath which filter out noise public areas can generate! Some of the best cabins on the Norwegian Spirit are generally onboard Deck 9.

  • Deck 9 of the Spirit features balcony staterooms port side (9500- 9702) and starboard (9000- 9202).
  • If you are looking for an inside cabin, this is an excellent deck. There are several located on Deck 9 of the Spirit, and those most aft (9703, 9207, 9203, and 9205) are across the hall from the high rent areas on this deck which is also where the best cabin stewards are assigned. These four inside cabins are also more spacious than standard. However, past guests have indicated that cabin 9207 is located under the kids' club, and in this stateroom you can hear quite a bir of noise, including "the pitter patter of little feet!"
  • Aft, Owner's Suites 9708 and 9208 are the most spacious on Deck 9 of the Norwegian Spirit and have majestic (less breezy) views of the ocean.
  • Penthouse Suites 9710, 9212, and 9210 are located between the aft Owner's Suites and have that highly sought view of the ocean!

Deck 10

The Norwegian Spirit's Deck 10 is also cushioned between two cabin decks, which helps to make this another, quieter place for a stateroom or suite. Several luxury suites are featured forward on this deck, so this will be an area where excellent cabin stewards are assigned. Some of the best cabins on the Norwegian Spirit are on Deck 10!

  • Forward on the Norwegian Spirit, Penthouse Suites 10502, 10500, 10000, 10001, and 10002 are quite spacious accommodations on Deck 10. However, unless there's a tailwind, balcony views from this vantage point are going to be breezy!
  • Also forward on Deck 10 of the Spirit, eight Penthouse Suites are located port side and starboard (10508, 10512, 10518, 10522, 10008, 10012, 10018, and 10022).
  • If you're looking for a balcony stateroom in a high rent section, cabins 10506, 10510, 10516, 10520, 10006, 10010, 10016, and 10020 are definitely worth your consideration. (Of these, based upon past passenger comments, cabin 10506 has an unsual shape and is actually smaller than standard.)These are all situated between the Penthouse Suites on Deck 10 of the Norwegian Spirit. Interior staterooms in this area are 10507- 10523 and 10009- 10023.
  • There are numerous balcony staterooms port side (10526- 10686) and starboard (10026- 10166) on the Spirit's Deck 10!
  • Aft inside cabins 10637 and 10137 are larger than standard.
  • Least preferred inside cabins on Deck 10 of the Norwegian Spirit are 10531, 10031, and 10611 because these are all near stairwells and could have resulting noise concerns.
  • Aft on Deck 10 of the Spirit, balcony stateroom 10686 has the most space and the largest balcony of any exterior cabin. It is located nearby the children's pool, which might make it a great location for parents traveling with small children.
  • Exterior stateroom 10166 is right next to the children's care center, which may be very handy for parents traveling with little ones.

Deck 11

Accommodations on Deck 11 of the Norwegian Spirit are balcony staterooms and inside cabins only. This deck is under the pool area, so there could be noise issues for some.

  • Best balcony staterooms on Deck 11 of the Norwegian Spirit are 11500- 11538 and 11596- 11668 port side, and 11000- 11038- 11096- 11168 starboard. These cabins are not directly under the pool area.
  • Staterooms to think twice about on Deck 11 of the Norwegian Spirit are 11550- 11592 port side, 11050- 11092 starboard, as well as interior cabins 11551- 11559, 11051- 11059, 11573- 11583, and 11069- 11083. All of these are underneath the pool area, and it is possible that there could be some noise concerns, such as hearing the scraping of deck chairs as these are moved when staff are cleaning late at night or early in the morning.

Thank you jdvmd for this very detailed reply.

I have taken your advice and chosen room 9612 for our first trip on Spirit.

Not wishing to put a dampener on your choice of cabin, 9612 is an interconnecting cabin, best avoided in my opinion.

Deck 9 is a good deck, I would suggest cabins 9082 (our choice for next year) 9086, 9582 or 9586. :)

Sadly - It looks like none of those are available looking at the website.

Maybe the just don't show up in the ncl site.

I'll dig more to see to confirm if they are sold.
