WHAT to see

What is a good thing to to there.

I'll make the assumption (always dangerous) that this tour is available to you. We took it in conjunction with the aerial tram and lunch. We thought the tram would be the highlight (sedate and scenic, but no wildlife), but the canals were the real highlight.

We saw 4 separate groups of howler monkeys, sloths, a very large croc in the water, quite a few caimans, huge iguanas, bats, many different water fowl, etc. We also had a top-notch guide.

Highly recommended!

We took a train to a banana plantation with a return by bus.

The train ride was great. The train was old and not air conditioned but comfortable. It seemed that they had total use of the tracks and could stop when and where they wanted. They stopped at various points to watch sloths and howler monkeys.

The train also had a nice view of the coast line at times during the trip. Compilmentary snacks were provided; beer or soda, yucca chips (like potato chips - very tasty) and, I think, some cookies.

The air conditioned bus ride stopped at a plantation and the tour guide gave a short talk on banana production. The round trip was about 3-4 hours.

Friends of ours on the same cruise took a canal tour. They enjoyed it but said it was very hot with little or no shade on the boat.

Hope you enjoy your day in Costa Rica.

Charlie (who is now really hungry for more of those yucca chips :D )
