Can I become a "High Roller" and is it worth anything?

Hi,

 

Its all relative I know as in vegas they would laugh at me, but if I bet $80-$100 on every roll of the crap dice (say by playing $44 on the inside numbers another 20-30 on the pass line with odds and say 20 on the hard ways)..would this be considered significant gambling on a cruise ship if I did this say in at least 5 one hour sessions throughout the cruise? If so are there any comps to be had? Do i notify of my intentions prior to boarding? Thanks for sharing any experiences.

I'm not familiar with Club Royale's (Royal Caribbean's casino player's program) requirements for table games to know whether that'd be sufficient. I'd suggest you call them at 888-561-2234 to get more information about what'd be required in order to be invited to join Club Royale.

 

If you are a member, then you definitely want to let them know in advance so they can track your play. Afterward, you'd qualify for cash rebates for a subsequent cruise based on your level of play during your previous cruise.

That wouldn't get you anything based on your play and time. You can ask the Casino Manager the first night to rate your play to see if you can be invited to join "Casino Royale". But I believe play has to be significantly more than you described. I believe it has to average 4 hours a day with a $50 minimum bet at a table game, with craps being exempt. Even if you are invited, any comps or discounts show up on your next cruise - not your current one. Five 1 hour sessions is nothing to them on a cruise - you're a captive audience and there's no competition. But like I said, can't hurt to ask. But I wouldn't count on it.

You can get some comps during the current cruise, like complimentary dinner at a specialty restaurant, a spa treatment, a bottle of wine, etc., all depending on your level of play during that week. That's up to the casino host who has some magic formula for determining what kinds of comps may be offered.

Interesting. I've never heard of Club Royale. My DH does this on just about every cruise (averaging $50 or more per hand - he probably doesn't gamble a four hour stretch, but definitely at least 4 hours per day), but he has never asked to be rated.

Not shocked to hear this. A few years ago I went a little crazy in the casino and lost almost $10K and got nothing (I know, I should have just paid for another few cruises - lesson learned). I complained, but only got comped a drink. Therefore, I barely gamble on cruises anymore (Maybe $1K or $2K) and mainly do my gambling at Atlantis, AC, and Vegas (notice my big gap in cruising in my signature). At least you can get comped for just about everything there. I no longer think of cruises as floating casinos and just go to have fun doing other activities.

If you are going to gamble a lot regardless, it definitely has it's perks. On the first cruise that my Dad was tapped (for lack of a better word) to join, the host have him tons of free drink coupons. Then the next cruise, they have a considerable cash "rebate" (obviously assuming you'll give it right back to the casino) and they have him a sticker on his sea pass so every drink in the casino would be free.

 

Also he's gotten invited for free cruises with special slot tournaments but never taken part as the dates never work.

 

But like I said- this is only worth anything if you'd be spending considerable amounts (of time and money) in the casino anyways.
