Emperor Norton Posted October 16, 2013 Author #126 Share Posted October 16, 2013 Another quaint sea side town that the bigger ships would probably have to skip. The pier itself was rather lo key and seemed setup for fishing (the area around it was probably 50% seafood restaurants or fish vendors)
Emperor Norton Posted October 16, 2013 Author #127 Share Posted October 16, 2013 Back on the ship there wasn't much to do. I could either return to town or just relax and watch the weather improve. I decided the weather watching seemed more interesting at the time. A fishing vessel returning without an obvious sign of a catch It seemed today was a sailing lesson day for the wee folk
Emperor Norton Posted October 16, 2013 Author #128 Share Posted October 16, 2013 An interesting feature of the cliff Watching the crew use their hi-tech sampling device It's a hard life, but someone has to do it Setting the tables up for tonight (the guy on the right looks displeased to be in the frame)
Emperor Norton Posted October 16, 2013 Author #129 Share Posted October 16, 2013 (edited) Now I can't remember the name of this event. Was is the tasting tables, Connoisseurs tables? Something else? There was a bread and cheese table (hey, this would've been a great time to empty some of those low stock wine bottles, make pours available as pairings with the different cheeses). Cured meats Sushi/caviar And of course the ever popular champagne - I've never seen so little consumed on a cruise Before the staff could clear everything up someone made off with one of the tins, I believe they may have left the smaller behind Edited October 16, 2013 by baychilla
Emperor Norton Posted October 20, 2013 Author #130 Share Posted October 20, 2013 (edited) Besides the Crepes Suzette I also had Steak Diane. This time around the dish wasn't as good as on the previous cruise. The reason? The steak was cooked in the kitchen and then added to the table side made sauce. No steak juices or fond found their way into the sauce. In the future I'd insist they cook it all at the table side. Our next stop was Gijon, Spain. I'd missed the first bus into town and when it returned for a second go round people were getting off the bus stating that they'd gone into town didn't like what they saw, stayed on the bus, been locked on the bus while the driver had a cigar and coffee in a cafe and then returned to the ship. The overly stellar reviews combined with the now typical less than stellar weather kept me on the ship (others however had a great time in town, ymmv). While were spending time on the ship let's go explore the club and casino The entrance to the fish bowl Inside the fishbowl Edited October 20, 2013 by baychilla
Emperor Norton Posted October 20, 2013 Author #131 Share Posted October 20, 2013 (edited) The massive dance floor The nook behind the couch seems like wasted space The performers view The stairs didn't seem that popular this go round I like this view While I think Philippi in Greece wins the award for the filthiest harbor, I don't think the fish here were overly fond of what was floating around. Emperor Norton Posted October 20, 2013 Author #132 Share Posted October 20, 2013 It was a working harbor We had a neighbor who would end up following us to La Coruna It seems it was time to test some of the life boats As far as I know, no passengers were invited to participate in the "chase the other lifeboat in a circle" race
Emperor Norton Posted October 20, 2013 Author #133 Share Posted October 20, 2013 I took a peek in at tea time - I don't think there was a theme today We were visited during sail away There was a brief battle of the horns, but the Hapag Lloyd ship sounded rather flatulent
Emperor Norton Posted October 20, 2013 Author #134 Share Posted October 20, 2013 It seems babies are magnets Over the course of the cruise I think I saw the baby a total of four times. There were never any extended crying jags and overall the baby was far quieter than something else that had reared its head. The usual suspects Next stop A Coruna, Spain. johnnycruise Posted October 20, 2013 #137 Share Posted October 20, 2013 When you state that someone made off with one of the tins (caviar), are you referring to an empty tin or a tin full (or half-full) of caviar?

It was just shy of being half full. lincslady Posted October 20, 2013 #139 Share Posted October 20, 2013 Wow - bare feet on tables, and caviar thieves - doesn't sound at all like like the PLU ('people like us' if you are not a Brit) we are used to meeting on Seabourn. Many thanks for all the photos, keep them coming please.

Great pics by the way. Really enjoying them.
Emperor Norton Posted October 20, 2013 Author #141 Share Posted October 20, 2013 After this cruise they weren't so mythical.:( After my Oceania cruise I've experienced a zoo like animal attacking environment in a buffet, so I can understand some of STs comments re: the Colonnade if those type of people were on. MrsWaldo Posted October 20, 2013 #142 Share Posted October 20, 2013 Yep, just like the one that relieved me of my guidebook while I was in the bathroom... We only ate one dinner meal in the Colonnade and it was a bit zoo (but then half the ship was trying to get to an evening tour)
CraftyEC Posted October 20, 2013 #143 Share Posted October 20, 2013 Hopefully the Heathens are all Seabourned out and won't put in an appearance later this week on the Quest! BTW I was playing with my new iPhone and getting use to navigating on it, going to sites I knew, and from SB I followed a link to their caviar supplier. Did you know that the 1 kg tins of Siberian caviar (which is, I think, the one provided on Seabourn) retail at $3,300? The Russian caviar is £4,750. And to think it is being 'wasted' on 'Heathens' / PNLU who are grabbing at it :(
Patti22 Posted October 21, 2013 #144 Share Posted October 21, 2013 I am very surprised at this unSeabourn-like behavior. We have never experienced the "heathen" behavior. Disconcerting as we plan our next Seabourn cruise for fall '14.
JaneBP Posted October 21, 2013 #145 Share Posted October 21, 2013 (edited) I am very surprised at this unSeabourn-like behavior. We have never experienced the "heathen" behavior. Disconcerting as we plan our next Seabourn cruise for fall '14. The only really ugly behavior came on my first cruise when a rather snobby group of 10 from Hilton Head ased my frail mother to move so they could all sit together because we 'always do. This was on the Pride at a Virtuoso party with rough seas. Like my mother had the strength to stand and move those heavy chairs. We got up, thanked the hosts, (I told the rude sailors to bugger off) and we went to dinner. I didn't hold it against Seabourn, but even retelling the event makes my blood boil. The whole time they were loud, rude, to everyone. Edited October 21, 2013 by JaneBP typo
Patti22 Posted October 21, 2013 #146 Share Posted October 21, 2013 JaneBP, We did experience some of what you mentioned on our July Stockholm to Copenhagen trip in July. For the first week, a group sort of took over the Observation Lounge and were loud. So sorry about what happened to your mother. Inexcusable!! Emperor Norton Posted October 23, 2013 Author #148 Share Posted October 23, 2013 Besides special ordering the Crepes Suzette and Steak Diane we had Leonie arrange another dinner for us. Wanting something rather different from the usual fare we asked for BBQ ribs with a side of mac 'n cheese. I knew that they wouldn't be able to actually BBQ the ribs but wanted to see what could be done (AFAIK only NCL has actual BBQs on their ships). The ribs were cooked perfectly and had a nice seasoning rub on them. The sauce was also good, a little tangy, a little sweet but not cloyingly so. The macaroni and cheese was the big surprise. It was wonderfully rich and flavorful. If I'd known it was going to turn out that well I probably would've ordered it as a side for every dinner. Thanks again Leonie (and John and the rest of the kitchen staff). Our final tourist stop was A Coruna, Spain. As you can see the weather wasn't very cooperative. We had an interesting little fortification off our aft. Another scenic view This looks like bad weather for a 3 hour tour Eventually the rain stopped (for a bit) and I ventured out. I wasn't all that keen on getting caught in a downpour right before the end of the cruise only to finish the cruise and return home sick. The Hapag Llyod ship had followed us
Emperor Norton Posted October 23, 2013 Author #149 Share Posted October 23, 2013 Fortunately for those who need wi-fi or are shopaholics we were docked next to a shopping mall.
Emperor Norton Posted October 23, 2013 Author #150 Share Posted October 23, 2013 The town wasn't really doing anything for me and it had started to drizzle so it was time to return to the ship. I do believe they like their windows It seems the IT staff on the ship was asleep at the wheel I went to tea time again and found that it was the chocolate tea (I wonder if the poor attendance is due at least in part to it not being mentioned in the Herald)
