first time cruiser..cabin question

Recommended Posts

Hello,

My partner and I will be sailing on the Epic TA cruise leaving Oct. 20. My cabin reservation states BF-BC 8072. Apparently that is not set in stone as they may be able to upgrade us before the cruise. Assuming they don't change it, can anyone tell me about this location on the ship and the room if possible. I see designations for rooms BC or BF so I don't quite understand why I have both codes in front of my room number. Thanks!

Did you book during a category upgrade promotion? My guess is that you paid for a BF but got a BC. 8072 is the most forward BC (mid-ship balcony) cabin on the 8th deck. You can see where it is located on the deck plan here: http://www.ncl.com/cruise-ship/epic/decks/2/8#tab_detail

Enjoy your adventure!

I booked the guaranteed rate which gives me a set price but I don't have a set cabin until at least 14 days before the cruise. As of yesterday this is the room assigned but the cruise specialist says he will check everyday to see if a different room is available. I have no idea what the chances are of being upgraded. It sounds as if I might prefer something higher than 8th deck.

That's a great room. Bed is by balcony door which makes the room roomier and the sink further away from the bed. In addition, you are close to the elevators. However, you will have a view of the lifeboat roof from your balcony. Enjoy, Epic is a great ship. Ken

I wouldn ´t expect an upgrade - we are on the same cruise (did you find the roll call?) and since 2 month nearly no balconies are vacant.

You are not able to make reservations for a designated cabin - just guarantees are available - and your cabin number is assigned when the get back cabins from cancellations....

I was told (and it sounds true) from my agent at NCL that she thought about doing that TA - but she was not able to get a balcony.....

So I wouldn´t hope for an upgrade (but - of course - you never know.... )

Sounds like you already are upgraded. You paid for a BF and got a BC, that's a pretty big jump. With balconies sold out, chances of another move to a balcony are probably slim, especially at this late date. Go enjoy your cruise, twelve more days for you!!!

When you book a guarantee, you are not able to select your cabin. You booked a BF and were upgraded to a BC.

You got somewhat lucky with this guarantee stateroom since many of the deck 8 balcony staterooms have uncovered balconies. People above those can see into the balcony and they have no protection from the weather (rain or sun). 8072 has covered balcony so no worries there. As someone else stated you are close to the elevators (but not too close) and you have bed by the balcony door which is the location we prefer.

Here is link to dragitdecks .... you can move the decks to show what is above and below you. Line up the elevators as a guideline.

You may or may not have a lifeboat one deck below the front of your balcony. It would block your view looking down at the water but not from looking out to sea. Here is view taken from the web, not real clear but you get the idea.

Here's a photo I took

I'd be less happy with this stateroom on a TA than on a regular cruise where there are port days. If you can upgrade or upsell just be sure to see what is below or above you before making any changes because you could do worse.

Have a blast on your cruise - we'll be on her for the second time in January.

I'm on that cruise as well. To add to the other details, you will be on the sunny side of the ship for almost all of the journey, so keep that in mind. Most people prefer this, especially since half of the journey can be in milder weather.

My partner and I are on the other side of the ship by choice, since we both burn too easily. Actually in a mini suite at 12073.
