poss Posted October 10, 2013 #1 Share Posted October 10, 2013 Wondering what the best excursions are. Its not a place I've ever been eager to visit, but I've been pleasantly surprised before. Thans for suggestions. (We don't like shopping; we do like beautiful scenery and interesting towns; not so much into ruins.) Thanks.

Morgans Posted November 3, 2013 #3 Share Posted November 3, 2013 Cagliari is a working town and is also quite hilly. Just in front of where the ships dock there is a hoho bus and a little train which are recommended. They both will take you around the town and are pretty good. The view from the top of the town is quite something. You can also take a lift right to the top where if I recall correctly is called Castello. There are some pleasant botanical gardens near the centre and also Poetto beach which is a little further out. The centre of town has some good shops and cafes. Our ships have always docked near the town so it isn't far to walk. Regarding trips, we have only done the one which was to Pula and the mosaics. These are ruins and if you are not into ruins perhaps this wouldn't be of interest however. Perhaps others can recall some different excursions for you. Rare John Bull Posted November 3, 2013 #4 Share Posted November 3, 2013 You'll be pleasantly surprised here too. :) Nothing outstanding, but a pleasant & laid-back day. Port's own free shuttle to the port gate on the waterfront promenade - cafes & bars & such. Various transport options here - little single-deck ho-ho, road train, carriage rides, taxis. Or short walk into town - just a couple of blocks but uphill. That puts you in the shadow of the Castillo district - continue by climbing steps or a free elevator to the old part, super views, ancient buildings, town hall, church, museum of sorts, just one corner of the castle remains, more bars & shops & stuff. There's an ancient amphitheatre a little further from the centre but not outstanding, steep walk to get there, unreliable opening times. IMHO, not worth the trouble. Won't be the highlight of your cruise, but very pleasant JB :)
