Bahamas snorkeling off the beach

I am a sometimes snorkeler from New England. I am going with 2 others on a cruise out of NYC in December to Port Canaveral, Nassau and Great Stirrup Cay (NCL private Island). We are not sure we want to go on a tour but are really interested in finding a beach from which we can snorkel which means not the crowded ones. Does anyone have any suggestions?

The cruise ship's private islands in that area offer some great beach snorkeling. I really enjoyed Coco Cay that belongs to Royal Caribbean. My daughter stopped at the next island belonging to Norwegian, and she ran into two manatees while snorkeling.
