Odd you should say you did not like the Camp Carnival Counselor on the Breeze. does that fall under the directorship of the Cruise Activities Boss, Boss,Boss?

I am Carnival VIP. total cheerleader. We sail on HAL Princess too..but always return to Carnival.

We play Trivia. And due to always getting together with awesome players..we win a lot. Because we are There for every trivia....one of us...we get to sort of know the people directing the Trivias. they have always been good natured.....funny....

How much fun" On the Freedom Panama Canal cruise....once the Person responsible did not show up. A guy doing a musical act outside of the Casino was there. So we browbeat him into doing a Triva.. He made up questions, about music. He would play a little bit and we would guess. He wound up giving away some of his C.D's..and we had a ..wonderful time.

We kept running into him on the ship.and he told us that ..he made a lot of instant best friends. during that. Sold some C.D'too...He was fabulous. To me that is activities on Carnival. Fun for everyone.

The 14th-22nd cruise of the Breeze..NONE of that. The real D.C., was missing. but still.

The activities people acted bored. Said smart things to the trivia players. sometimes downright hateful. I actually disliked them. The woman fill in cruise director.................a total turn off. Her assistant..marginally better.

She was also working on djsembartation......and while Getting on was a nightmare. getting off was worse. Self Assist..FTTF VIPS all together going down one elevator. I almost fell. Luckily I did not.

I always write a review when I come back from a cruise.

Not this time. I have a lot to say about that activities staff that might go better unsaid. And everyone has a bad week.

but I am not going to be booking that ship again soon. And it is lovely. Staff.is nice..food was quite good I thought and .other than activites ....so nice. But when you are involved in activities a lot.......it does matter who is calling the shots. To me..the activities staff that I interacted with was disagreeable. totally. maybe I am the only person who saw it that way. So I am not writing a review.

I also loved the electronic additions to the Theater Productions. Very good. Liked the lenth too. donated to the casino. saw no one win. tight tight tight. but I bet penny slots and don't do much.

Thanks for the review. I have a question regarding the Thrill Theater. I'm kinda worried about the "4D" experience. I had a bad experience at Disney's Honey I Shrunk the Kids when it felt like mice were running over our feet. That freaks me OUT! I hate mice and feeling like any creatures are touching me. Do they do that in the Thrill theater? I can handle wet sprays or smells or things like that. Just not feeling like something is touching me.

They have these little pieces of cloth that do fan your feet when something is "chasing" you and they have a little piece of the chair that pokes you in the back when someone is "chasing" you and tries to grab you. (the back thing kinda hurt if it hit you just right) Neither bothered us overly much, but I guess I'd have to say YES they do have the things that fan over your feet and ankles. It's VERY light, though. We could barely feel them unless we had on flip flops or something that made your feet bare.

Didn't like Aruba either and we leave on the Breeze Saturday so we'll stay on the ship in Aruba. We loved Curacao and can't wait to walk around there again.

As for Camp Carnival, our Granddaughter loved it, she's 11 now and has been cruising for 5 years. She's already signed up for the cruise in January. They never played "The Quiet Game".

That's been our experience, too, until this cruise, Allenee. Our kids have been on 10 cruises. I think that's why it was so shocking. They've always had a great time even though they only go maybe 3-4 times during the week for about an hour and half. They look forward to that time and so do we. It was so disappointing to see the kids being treated that way. I actually view it as cruel. Can you imagine someone telling you to be quiet for 20 minutes on your vacation (not a sound or word) or you'll be banned from enjoying something else later?! That's not vacation. Boo.

What's more, most kids wouldn't think to mention it to Mom and Dad because once it's over, most kids just "forget" and get on with it. Still doesn't make it OK for me.

OP:

Thanks for the review!

IMO, you really should make a formal complaint about the Camp Carnival staff -- that is a big deal! And if you don't bring it to light, CCL might not become aware.

My husband says the same thing. I do have the counselors name, though. We're tossing it around and may just write a letter that clearly states we had fun, but that we feel this is grossly inappropriate. I think I've read so much on cruise critic about people thinking they "deserve" something that I'm hesitant to do anything because that's always how it appears and we don't want ANYTHING because we had FUN!!!!

Great review, Kristi!!!! We did the same exact itineary on the Breeze, but in April. I cannot agree with you MORE on Antigua. I had a horrible sunburn on my shins, and this guy was literally CHASING me with a "fresh" aloe plant. DH finally got in his face and told him to back off!!!! But, yes, that port was BRUTAL!!!!! lol My DH is 14 and didn't use any of the kid's clubs, but I would DEFINITELY send that letter off, and PRAY it gets into the right hands. I would want my DD to have the same great vacation experience as the adults, and to make the kids sit there and be quiet, is BEYOND wrong!!!!!:mad: Send it, and don't feel bad!!! Maybe this girl is not a good "fit" with the kids, and Carnival needs to re-evaluate her. Otherwise, sounds like a great trip!!! We LOVED the Breeze and are looking at April 2014 for Round 2:D:D

I have enjoyed reading your review. I want to visit some of these islands. Please reconsider not filing a complaint about the counslers. That is just wrong. It needs to be stopped. I would have been infuriated and marched down to guest services right then. Sorry for my rant. It justs ticks me off that they would do that.

Definitely write a letter. That counselor should not be around children.

We sent a short letter to John Heald because we didn't know who else to send one to. He very quickly replied that he got the letter and had forwarded it to someone he felt would take it seriously. We don't want anything bad to happen to the staff, but think maybe it could be a wake up call that parents do check on their kids and do care that they are being treated with the proper respect and care that they deserve. Nothing more. Thanks for all the replies.

The Breeze is a fabulous ship and I think Carnival is heading in the right direction with ships like her. The new extras are tons of fun!! We'd love to see something like RCCL's flow rider as the next "new thing" for Carnival. Those are FUN!!!!

our 16YO had a good time in O2.. They did do a lot of sitting around and talking, but also played 'just dance' or whatever they call it right now.. we stopped in a couple of times..much to her embarrassment. :o She preferred to be hanging in the club with her friends than hanging in the sun on lido! :), and we even let her blow off dinner the last night so she could hang with them.

The 'Quiet game' is definitely a good 'tool' to bring kids 'down' before they go off to their parents, but should be reserved for school..not vacation!

We enjoyed our tour in Antigua thru Adventure Antigua..thought the area was quite beautiful.. as for the shopping.. I can't stand it either!! I don't cruise to these places for shopping.. I cruise to them to see what is as close to natural beauty as possible.

Loved the Baths, too.. we were part of the 'salmon upstream' group.... sorry!! :) The way they took us thru made sense at the time because we wanted to snorkel along the wall back to the catamaran.. ;)

The ship is absolutely beautiful, but I missed the Alchemy bar and the adults only pool for sure. The tides pool was ridiculously hot by the second sea day!!

I think this should be reported. What they are doing is wrong.

Our two older kids were in Circle C! (they are 13 and 14) They were only there 4 nights, but they LOVED it and had only good things to say. This incident happened in Camp Carnival to our 10 year old.

Our oldest daughter loved that they played Smash Brothers! lol They enjoyed their counselor in Circle C. She was there a couple of times when we walked them down and seemed very kind. I'm glad you guys had as much fun as we did. I'm missing "my" balcony right now... :o

  • 2 weeks later...

I have a question about the Sleep Inn you stayed at pre-cruise. Did it have a shuttle to the ship, where you could leave your car parked there for the length of the cruise, and get shuttled back and forth to the ship? We are staying there and taking the Breeze out on Nove 17th, and we have done that in Port Canaveral and it was easier.

Thanks for the great review!

Hi Kristi it's Jackson. Just letting you know I haven't gotten an email from the kids yet. So if you could do it soon that would be great. I would just like to get in contact with one of my friends from the cruise.
