Villefranche or Beaulieu sur Mer?

I know the two villages are close but if we only decide to do one ( this will be at the end of a port intensive cruise and we may be exhausted!), which is more picturesque in your opinion? Does one have more shops than the other or more restaurants? We'll be taking the train from Monaco.

Thanks for the link to your pictures. We have stop in Villefranche next October and I had read that there was nothing "special" about this port stop. The pictures tell me otherwise... love the charm of the area. Can't wait to see it!

We spent the morning in Villefranche, went back to the ship for an early lunch and in the afternoon went to Nice and Eze.

Both these little villages are really delightful. However, given the choice I would choose Villefranche. It has a gorgeous little beach area, with a crystal clear warm sea, and plenty of great restaurants lining the harbour side. There aren't many shops, but there is usually a little craft market harbour side and that is well worth a walk around. Which ever you choose, you won't be disappointed I'm sure.

Unfortunately we skipped the port of Monaco altogether due to weather conditions.

Also can't do a comparison for you, but we found Villefranche to be charming as well and very walkable. Be sure to buy lots of French soaps! They are lovely and make great gifts. :)

We docked in Ville Franche instead of Monaco due to weather. Took the city to Monaco-ville but should have stayed in Ville Franche. Charming little spot, nice to roam around in, have a nice little lunch ... low key, non rushing day.
