AARP for those under 50 and NCL

When I booked my cruise (new to NCL) the PCC told me if we joined AARP, we would get the 5% discount and made our reservation that way. It saved us over 60.00 each and the membership for both people is only 16.00. I did not have to join until after the booking and then sent her the AARP numbers. Well worth it! We also got one of the dash sales. Since the cruise is not till May, hoping for some more perks/price drops! :)

My PCC did not even mention the possibility of AARP discount, and she knows I am 50.

I guess I need to stop throwing away the AARP junk mail and take advantage of being in the perks.

You can just go to the website and sign up. It takes like 15 minutes. I just did it for a year and they gave me the card instantly and then I turned around and called for my discount.

Okay, just spoke to a rep. She said I'd still get all the traveling discounts. I'm going to purchase it.

Keep in mind that the AARP discount is only for cruises booked at least 9 months ahead of time and is on the basic fare, not the taxes or fees.

Best $16 we ever spent. We have used the AARP discount when cruising more than once. The agent or PCC always checks all the angles and I think it has always been the cheapest way to go. And, most hotels seem to offer an AARP rate as well, and we often take advantage of that.

How far under 50 are we talking here? Im in my 40s, but not near 50.

I was mid thirties when I signed up a few years ago to take advantage of a money market account offer.

I wish I would have known about this discount before we spent a bunch of money on our last cruise. I'll certainly keep it in mind for the next.

The 5% AARP discount can be applied to any cruise that is more than 9 months out.

Some cruises may have more of a discount, but not all. I just save $50 per person on a short notice Epic cruise, dropping the price from $369 to $319 per person (13.6.% discount)

I used the AARP on an April 2011 Spirit cruise, but have used casino rates since then. The rate for my 12 day January Breakaway cruise is $260 plus fees of $163.16 for $423.16.. Minus $100 for the cruse award I bought on the last cruise and a $70 cabin credit. This is for a balcony BC

Im not 50 but GF is and signed up last year at 49. We used it to save 10% on our Epic TA Great value.

It was better than my MIL discount and was combinable with the dash sale for another $70 obc.

Ive had AAA for years, for the emergency tows. I use it for car rental discounts and restaurant discounts but have never found cheaper cruise prices:confused:

That's fabulous. I'm glad it worked! :)

Bump! for any updates on us under 50's that have used the AARP. Just became a aarp member and attached it to my booking.

Any horror stories if under 50 or is it all smooth sailing. :)

Um, I'm 33 and considering signing up for that! Seriously! My husband and I travel a lot, so getting the AARP hotel discounts would be pretty great as well, if that applies.

Thanks for the info about this, cruisecritiquer!
