Overnight stay in port?

Can someone tell me what the procedure is if we would like to stay in a hotel on land when the ship is in port for an overnight stay?

Do we have to let the cruise ship know? Or do they just count the passengers on the day of departure?

It is very wise to let the front desk know.

The front desk needs to be notified. In case of an emergency they will waste time and effort looking for someone that is not, so to speak, at home.

 

In Tahiti when we stay overnight many folks have taken the opportunity to stay in an over-the-water bungalow in Moorea and get picked up the next day when the ship gets there. It works out very well.

It might be safer, but I don't think it's necessary. Some people may get off and just party all night, and the ship doesn't really care. All they want to know is whether everybody is on board when it's time to leave. However, if by some slim chance they have to do an early departure they might remember to call your hotel ... IF you haven't checked out yet.
