wrp96 Posted November 4, 2013 #1 Share Posted November 4, 2013 Don't get me wrong. I love Sleigh Ride, I'll Be Home for Christmas, etc But NOT the first week in November. I thought I was just imagining it yesterday in the dining room, but it was loud and clear in the Solarium this morning. Can we please wait until after (US) Thanksgiving?
Merion_Mom Posted November 4, 2013 #2 Share Posted November 4, 2013 (edited) Are you kidding, Wrona? Most retailers now consider Halloween to be the starting line! I have been seeing Christmas merchandise in stores for at least two weeks now. (Maybe they are all Canadians. ;)) Edited November 4, 2013 by Merion_Mom

klepton Posted November 4, 2013 #4 Share Posted November 4, 2013 To each their own I guess... I've been listening to Christmas music for over a month now. :D
wrp96 Posted November 4, 2013 Author #5 Share Posted November 4, 2013 To each their own I guess... I've been listening to Christmas music for over a month now. :D Oh I've been practicing it for 3 months already. And usually in July when it's 100 degrees out I'll watch White Christmas. But it's too early to be hearing it at breakfast in the Caribbean when the decorations aren't even up yet.
Toddcan Posted November 4, 2013 #6 Share Posted November 4, 2013 (edited) Out of respect, I propose that no Christmans music should be played at the retail level until AFTER Remembrance Day (Veterans Day in the USA). And, believe me, I am a Christmas music fanatic - can't get enough (during the proper season) Edited November 4, 2013 by Toddcan
Nightowl37 Posted November 4, 2013 #7 Share Posted November 4, 2013 I know one department store that puts out their Christmas merchandise on Labor Day (first weekend in September)! But even they don't start the music til after Thanksgiving.
cruzinlady1947 Posted November 4, 2013 #8 Share Posted November 4, 2013 Christmas is less than 2 months away. If you wait until after Thanksgiving, you will have less than 1 month to listen to it. Not enough time for me. I think I will go now and put some Christmas music on. :p;) Gwen :)
Jimnbigd Posted November 4, 2013 #9 Share Posted November 4, 2013 I agree -- It is too early. Gosh, the Hallmark TV channel is already showing Christmas movies.
Aeriedk Posted November 4, 2013 #10 Share Posted November 4, 2013 I prefer it 1 week prior to Thanksgiving to get in the holiday spirit. Although I'm guilty of listening to it right now lol

Lady Chew Posted November 4, 2013 #12 Share Posted November 4, 2013 We've got several houses in our area who took down their Halloween decorations over the weekend - and put up their Christmas lights! I guess they just wanted to deal with changing decorations once!

Ander026 Posted November 4, 2013 #14 Share Posted November 4, 2013 Where I work (Disney), the first Christmas Party is 11/8. The first tree should be going up this week as well at the Studios.

I don't want to deal with people getting offended about "Merry Christmas" vs "Happy Holidays" any sooner than I absolutely have to! LOL!!!! Amy from Delaware Posted November 4, 2013 #18 Share Posted November 4, 2013 Hmmm, and Hanukkah starts the night BEFORE Thanksgiving, and I can't find any Hanukkah items in stores yet. Ya know, that ONE small display of blue and silver stuff that's usually hidden in the back behind all the Christmas stuff.
Sky616 Posted November 4, 2013 #19 Share Posted November 4, 2013 The Rockettes Christmas Show at Radio City Music Hall in New York City begins this week. We were there the Saturday before Christmas last year. It really gets you in the holiday spirit to see this show and to see the tree at Rockefeller Center. Nothing like being in New York near Christmas.
Ladysilver Posted November 4, 2013 #20 Share Posted November 4, 2013 Since the Thanksgiving/Christmas season is my favorite time of the year, I don't mind the Christmas music. It makes me feel like a kid again. :D

sleepless Posted November 4, 2013 #24 Share Posted November 4, 2013 Having Christmas merchandise out early is not something new. It has been happening for over 40 years. My first job, back in 1970 was for a major retail store in Pittsburgh, Pa, known then as Kaufmann's. Today, it known as Macy's. The Christmas decoration department,s that I worked in, opened up on November 1 of each year. On another note, one if not two of the local radio stations in the Detroit, Michigan area switch to "all Christmas music" beginning November 1st. My only complaint is that they stop playing it December 25. I think they should switch to all Christmas music a little later in November, and continue it to at least January 1st. Darkwolfe Posted November 4, 2013 #25 Share Posted November 4, 2013 I like Christmas music myself, but when it is actually the Christmas season and NOT the retailer's sale calendar. It's banned from my house entirely until the day after Thanksgiving and it goes off on the weekend closest to January 5th. Amusingly enough, that's the same schedule the Christian radio stations follow here too. They are currently putting an emphasis on Thanksgiving.
