eliana Posted November 9, 2013 #1 Share Posted November 9, 2013 We are about to book a cruise on Mariner in a grade F suite. We have a choice between a central position on deck 7 and the two ends on deck 8, Any advice on which we should choose
TedC Posted November 9, 2013 #2 Share Posted November 9, 2013 If you have any tendency for motion sickness try to be low and amidship and you won't feel much motion.
eliana Posted November 9, 2013 Author #3 Share Posted November 9, 2013 Thanks. We are fortunate in not suffering from motion sickness, so it's other factors that weigh with us. For example although the suites are the same on both decks, how about the balconies and their outlook given the position of the lifeboats.
ridolphi Posted November 9, 2013 #4 Share Posted November 9, 2013 On Mariner you really can't go wrong. I would be more inclined to pick one with a walkin shower over a tub/shower option if possible. I think since you don't have a seasick issue, either would be fine.
DavidMjps Posted November 11, 2013 #5 Share Posted November 11, 2013 One little thing - there's no laundry room on Deck 7 so if you want to use the machines or iron something you have to go up a deck and forward.

I agree get a shower only bath... It's very difficult (when you are short) to climb into that huge tub to shower! xrvlcruiser Posted November 11, 2013 #7 Share Posted November 11, 2013 Definitely a walk in shower over the tub . . . . Nana is right!
Catpow Posted November 11, 2013 #8 Share Posted November 11, 2013 We loved Deck 7 - super easy access to Coffee Connection, Horizon Lounge, restaurants and the central atrium down to the theatre and Destination Services for tours etc without waiting for the lift/elevator. The laundry was no issue - we'd just start at the top and work our way down. The laundry on Deck 8 was usually full anyway. We were once challenged by someone at the Deck 10 laundry saying we weren't from 'around here' and could truthfully say there wasn't one on our floor and we had to visit other floors. :o But on a cruise you tend to do your laundry just occasionally; eating and drinking is an all day event! There was certainly no smells or vibration issues and we experienced rough and smooth seas; we've booked again in the same area. And yes, I agree with the shower vs tub, but it's a personal choice. TedC Posted November 11, 2013 #9 Share Posted November 11, 2013 You're on vacation - don't spend time doing laundry - use onboard credit and let Regent do your laundry - they do an excellent job!

Ok so I learned this lesson while on Deck 7.... Note to self, when you pay many $1,000's for a Regent cruise why waste one second in the Laundry! DeepFreeze63 Posted November 11, 2013 #11 Share Posted November 11, 2013 Are you sure that there are F cabins on the Mariner's deck 7? Of our 3 Mariner cruises (2 on Deck 7 and I on Deck 8) we liked the mid-ship G cabin on Deck 7 the best; it was convenient to Gym, Coffee Connection (use the stairs in the Casino), and the boutiques. We hated the tubs - too high for short people to get in/out easily (safely) and puts a tall person's head near the ceiling. Never had bad weather so I can't comment about stability. And on Deck 8 the areas Aft and Forward. It only reflects that these are the Categories until 12/19/2013 and I did not research if Regent is getting ready to change the designations as they have in the past. Personally I would not under any circumstances book those Deck 7 F cabins as that is the one area of the ship (IMHO) where smoking escapes the "smoking" areas. I love the Forward Deck 8 Cabins (820, 822, 824 and the opposite side matching cabins) they are not to far forward and very quite as few other passengers are that far forward. DeepFreeze63 Posted November 11, 2013 #13 Share Posted November 11, 2013 Oops! No wonder I liked those mid-ship, deck 7 cabins! On our first Mariner cruise three years ago, they were Category H and two years ago they were Category G. After 12/19/2013, they become Category F. Isn't it funny, you love those cabins and I wouldn't have one... Everyone has there own ideas as to what works for them! This is why I love Cruise Critic, everybody has got a different opinion :) Edited November 11, 2013 by nana541

Nana, I don't understand your comment about the Deck 7 F suites being the one area of the ship where smoke escapes the "smoking" areas. There are no longer any smoking areas anywhere near these suites. I just spent 22 days in 734 last month and there was nary a hint of smoke in my suite or anywhere else in the vicinity of my suite. Well see that's what CC is all about! You learn something all the time, this is good to know I'm wrong about the smoke! However I still love my Deck 8 Category F forward cabins. :) Edited November 12, 2013 by nana541
