west coast beach with rental loungers/ umbrella?

There seems to be information about southern beaches with facilities such as the Tiki Hut and Harbour Lights. Any places on the West Coast that offer similar facilities? My understanding is the West Coast has more calm waters without the undertow.

Harbour Lights is on Carlisle Bay (Brownes Beach) on the west coast. The Boatyard and Lobster Alive are also right there.

This is "NOT" the West Coast. That is the South Coast you are talking about.

 

The West Coast is North of the cruise terminal. Anything in the northern part of St. Michael Parish or St. James Parish is the West Coast. The beaches are amazing here and very calm. This is my favorite part of the island.

 

Ask a taxi driver to take you to Paynes Bay Holetown areas. They will know exactly where to take you and where they will have rentals. This is where the sea turtle excursions go and the Sandly Lane hotel is. Actually they take you up to the Fairmont Royal Pavillion for the Turtles. This is part of St. James also.

is neither fish nor fowl nor good Red Herring. ;)

 

It's unique position places it in-between West and South Coasts

where it can display characteristics of both

depending on what direction the wind/waves/weather is coming from

but let's not argue about it.

Our West Coast beaches are normally a placid calm-water situation

but one of Nature's unfortunate coincidences is that Cruise season (Nov. to March)

coincides nicely with Surf Season (Oct. to March!)

when big ole North Swells coming rolling down from N.Atlantic winter storms! :eek:

 

These big-energy swells transform placid West Coast beaches into roiling badass surf spots

with milky-white waters, treacherous undertow and stinging "Sea-Lice"!

What fun, huh? -NOT! :eek:

 

Unfortunately for the day-cruiser, this can happen overnight, literally,

so if you make your way to any of the West Coast beaches

to find it quite unlike anything you've been expecting..

you just lucked out! = BAD Day buddy! :eek:

 

 

Get back in the cab and try one of our South Coast beaches instead

-they may have some minor surf, but they'll be far more amenable

than North-Swell-West-Coast beaches throwing a temper tantrum!

 

 

Your carefully planned schedule for that day? -It's called Ship Happens, OK?

You can save yourself the frustration of an un-neccesary trip up the West Coast

-only to discover my scenario above-

by going up on Top Deck, while you're still on the ship

to have a look around you, at the local sea conditions!

 

 

If you see wave action going in to that beach very close to the ship

then there's a N.Swell running that day.

 

If the waters near the beach look all stirred-up and milky white

you definitely have a N.Swell situation on your hands!

and that's when Plan B comes into effect. ;)

 

No West Coast for you! -not to swim.

Don't go in when it's in a bad mood.

Remember what I said about treacherous undertow.

 

 

Plan B:

Do Carlisle Bay or the South Coast instead.

Head for Accra/Rockley Beach! or Dover Beach.

Go to the Hilton: they have great beaches on their South Coast side.

Quick question - you mentioned the Hilton as a possibiity. What about Turtle Beach? That has been mentioned as another possibility for a day pass.

I believe (believe!) that "Turtle Beach" is the name of a hotel nestled in Dover Woods

and not the legit. name of any beach, per se.

 

As such, it's on the South Coast, at the far Eastern end of St.Lawrence Gap.

 

 

You'll get to the public Dover Beach about a half-mile before you get to Turtle Beach Hotel

so you might want to stop there instead? Cheaper beer? Watersports,etc?
