Century Drydock? Any News?

We are planning a Pacific Coastal cruise this Spring out of Los Angeles on the Century. I have not been on Cruise Critic in a while, so I may not be up to speed on this issue.

Can someone (Host Andy perhaps) fill me in on the planned dry dock that is suppose to precede these spring cruises? I remember it was originally going to be an extensive dry dock, but then those plans were curtailed.

Any info on the details of what will be renovated would be highly appreciated. Thanks!! :)

Yes, I like the smaller size Century but it's only because it had two itineraries we wanted to do that we're on it for our next two cruises and may even add the 3 nighter Bahama cruise before our Caribbean one in Feb. if the price is right since we'll be in the Ft. Lauderdale area then also.:D Edited by robtulipe

Hi Curtsdesilets,

Being that Century's drydock is now reduced to 1 week (the original plans were for 3 weeks), I'm expecting this to be a typical drydock, where soft goods are replaced, and Century has whatever marine / mechanical maintenance is required. There's simply not enough time to perform anything significant, i.e. add cabins or new restaurants.

While the scaled back plans are somewhat disappointing, especially as it seemed Celebrity had some grand plans at one point... the good news is, Century will be refreshed, and hopefully will remain in their fleet for another couple of years, or more.

We are booked for Century's 3 night & 8 night sailings in February, immediately after her drydock, and I will be sure to post updates while onboard, so please stay tuned. I hope this is helpful ! Edited by Host Andy

We got a good price on a Sky Suite, so hopefully those might be spruced up a bit. Regardless, we still Love the Century, even if she is a bit tattered. :)

I know originally there were plans to really renovate her. Hopefully they will get some of the wear and tear items managed. Have a good cruise. We are on her late March.

As Host Andy and I indicated the drydock is only for just slightly less than a week, likely Feb.5 to 11, taking into account sailing time to/from Grand Bahama. The cruise before ends Feb.4 in Pt. Everglades and cruise after starts there Feb.12 so it is not a few weeks, for this basic freshen up. Edited by robtulipe

LOL Curt -- I'll be thrilled, if they just replace that ratty carpeting! ;) We will be on Century (along with Host Andy -- and many other CC'ers), right after she comes out of dry-dock in February. Many on that initial 3-niter to the Bahamas will be doing at least one b2b to the Caribbean. So, start watching for reviews to pop up in mid-late February!

Just booked 3/29 for ourselves and our active senior parents. Century is a great ship, and we look forward to a lovely cruise. See you on board. :)

Had trouble signing in for the Meet N Mingle party however.
