flcruiser08 Posted November 11, 2013 #1 Share Posted November 11, 2013 I've searched but can't find what docs are needed for my 6 month old to cruise, any help?
Sunkissed Mommy Posted November 11, 2013 #2 Share Posted November 11, 2013 Birth certificate is the bare minimum needed to cruise for the baby, thats it. We're cruising with our baby in December, he'll be 9 months then. We opted to get him a passport just to feel a bit better about leaving the ship in foreign ports. existential monkey Posted November 11, 2013 #3 Share Posted November 11, 2013 (edited) Sailed on the Triumph last month with our 16-month-old. No passport, just his birth certificate. No problems. :) You will also want to make sure that your baby is six months old on the day you sail. Even one day short of six months and you will not be allowed to board wth the baby. Lerin Posted November 12, 2013 #4 Share Posted November 12, 2013 (edited) We got a passport for ours, baby passport photos are crazy cute. :) Be sure to check the birthdate requirements, ours went on his first cruise at 6 months and 1 day. We had to put off the cruise a month waiting for him to age. Some cruises require a child be 12 months(tas, Hawaii, world cruises) Edited November 12, 2013 by Lerin
boowaaccaa Posted November 12, 2013 #5 Share Posted November 12, 2013 We got a passport for our baby. He is 7 months and his passport is soooooo cute! I am from Canada so we had to get one. I don't know about the US but it was about half the cost of an adult one.
Colorado Kat Posted November 12, 2013 #6 Share Posted November 12, 2013 In the US passports for children are only good for 5 years. (Kids photos change so much in 5 years?) They are cheaper than an adult one.
Rare Tapi Posted November 12, 2013 #7 Share Posted November 12, 2013 (edited) We got a passport for our baby. He is 7 months and his passport is soooooo cute! Our 2 kids have the worst passport photos :o. We got theirs when each was around 3 months old and both were screaming at the top of their lungs when the photos were taken. We look at the photos and we think they are cute because they are so bad. haha! To the OP, documents required for your 6 month old will be the same as for an adult. Even though a passport is technically not required, I HIGHLY, HIGHLY recommend it. Having one will greatly expedite things should you require medical care overseas or if you need to fly home (remember that you may not need to cruise, but you'll need one to fly internationally). Babies immune systems are still developing at such age so unfortunately they are more prone to getting sick, specially when exposed to confined spaces with 3,000 passengers. From personal experience, they can go from perfect picture of health to emergency room in 24 hours. Give yourself some peace of mind and get that passport just in case.
