sippican Posted November 15, 2013 #1 Share Posted November 15, 2013 Quick question - is the port parking convenient enough to make an easy trip back to the car to restock? It was very simple in San Juan to disembark and acquire another two bottles and carry them on. Is this a possible in Miami?
John F Posted November 15, 2013 #2 Share Posted November 15, 2013 I hope so. I wonder if you can do this in Ft. Lauderdale?? Thanks for any input. :)
Rare Keith1010 Posted November 15, 2013 #3 Share Posted November 15, 2013 In Miami, about a mile from the port is a CVS which has a selection of wine. About three miles from the port is a Publix Grocery Store which has a much larger selection of wine. Keith
sippican Posted November 15, 2013 Author #4 Share Posted November 15, 2013 I am driving to the port, so can have the extras in the car already, just want to know if it would be a hassle to walk back to the car from the ship to get them. Easy to do in some ports.
Rare Keith1010 Posted November 15, 2013 #5 Share Posted November 15, 2013 Now I got it. If you park at the port it will be so very easy to walk to the car and back. Keith
snowskier Posted November 15, 2013 #6 Share Posted November 15, 2013 Parking provided by the Port of Miami is right across from the ship. Easy walk and if you don't feel like walking they have a shuttle that goes around the loop. Took me less than 5 minutes to walk to my car when I disembarked last week. Out to sea! Posted November 15, 2013 #7 Share Posted November 15, 2013 Yes, you just walk across the street from the terminal to the car park, grab your wine, and reboard.

CruzLover80 Posted November 15, 2013 #9 Share Posted November 15, 2013 So you go through checkpoint and then head back out? What do you do with the bags? This I need to know... I'm leaving next week and this is a new one for me. The port parking and check in are literally right next to each other.

Put your bags in your cabin -- if you have to wait until 1:30 to go back to your car the wine will still be there. Even better the lines to get on the ship will be non-existent. sippican Posted November 15, 2013 Author #13 Share Posted November 15, 2013 I must be slow today.. Not sure the purpose here???? Ist trip on = 2 bottles of wine 2nd trip + 2 more bottles = 4 bottles of wine etc. (You can continue to add soda and water also if desired). Worked well in San Juan. Thanks to everyone for the info. :)

They know you've boarded with your carryon once already but they will let you re board with no more checking or questions? Heck I could start a courier service at the port!! Call in your order & it'll be ready for you in the lot:D Edited November 16, 2013 by eltigre

Colorado Kat Posted November 17, 2013 #18 Share Posted November 17, 2013 Interesting concept. If you go by yourself, it is only one more bottle of wine.

sippican Posted November 18, 2013 Author #20 Share Posted November 18, 2013 How did you get bottles back on board from San Juan? We just checked in, ate lunch, went to the cabin, unloaded and disembarked, We walked to CVS, bought more soda and wine, put them in our backpacks and went back to the ship. We placed the bags on the screen belt, through the scanner, picked them back up, and walked onboard. No questions. They really have no way of knowing if you brought anything onboard during your initial check-in, nor did they seem to care. In San Juan, there is hard alcohol available right in the terminal. We saw many purchasing bottles, placing them in bags after being screened, then walking right on.
eandj Posted November 18, 2013 #21 Share Posted November 18, 2013 Success depends on the particular cruise line and their enforcement of rules. And that varies per port too.
