curtdesilets Posted November 16, 2013 #1 Share Posted November 16, 2013 For any of you recent cruisers... 1) Do they offer TRUVIA (i.e. Stevia) as a sugar substitute? 2) What brand and varieties of Tea are provided for free? (not meaning the Cova Café or equivalent where it's a fancier tea) Thanks for the answers!
Lovemychoos Posted November 16, 2013 #2 Share Posted November 16, 2013 Can't answser your question about tea, although I'm sure its Twinnings, but def never seen Truvia on any of the 3 Celebrity ships we've been on. You can get it in packets of small sachets, which are handy to take away with you, if that's any help :) Lou
curtdesilets Posted November 16, 2013 Author #3 Share Posted November 16, 2013 We brought a box of packets of Truvia on our last cruise (Oceania), only to find out that it was everywhere on that ship. Perhaps by March, they may have it on board, as it is getting much more popular.
sue58 Posted November 16, 2013 #4 Share Posted November 16, 2013 Last year the tea was individually wrapped bags by Mhai Diva, hopefully it is still the same. Big selection including Darjeeling, Earl Grey, English Breakfast, Rooibos, Herbal, Cinnamon, Green, Camomile, Mango, etc.
SixOneTwo Posted November 16, 2013 #5 Share Posted November 16, 2013 I can confirm that they no longer stock TWININGs brand. They have something akin to English Breakfast and Earl Grey, as those are the ones I drink. Can't tell you about the rest, but there was quite a nice variety. phoenix_dream Posted November 17, 2013 #6 Share Posted November 17, 2013 I don't recall the tea brand these days, but if you are a 'tea snob' then I recommend you just pack some of your fav's. Takes up little space and weight so why not. That way you know you will enjoy.
Rare 4cats4me Posted November 17, 2013 #7 Share Posted November 17, 2013 I always bring my own box of Stevia in the Raw (green packet) which no one seems to have on land and at sea
OpalGem Posted November 17, 2013 #8 Share Posted November 17, 2013 I always bring my own box of Stevia in the Raw (green packet) which no one seems to have on land and at sea  Yes, I bring a bag along of the raw Stevia also. I carry it daily normally anyway. DH likes the pink sweet & low. The ships will sometimes carry the colors but will have a different name brand. Rather just carry what I know I will use and enjoy! curtdesilets Posted November 17, 2013 Author #9 Share Posted November 17, 2013 Looks like we will pack a week's supply of Truvia in our luggage. I'm sure the Tea will be fine, whatever they provide. We aren't that fickle. One thing I sometimes see...all of the Green Tea disappears amazingly by the 2nd or 3rd cruise day. Someone (s) must be hoarding them.
Tudorcruisers Posted November 17, 2013 #10 Share Posted November 17, 2013 After seeing this post I looked up Truvia as I had never heard of it and found an article which had this paragraph in it. Realising now I am glad I don't know or use Truvia after reading this. "Thanks to a false-advertising job well-done, many health conscious consumers have been tricked into believing that Truvia is the same thing as Stevia. The (disappointing) truth is that, despite the fact that Truvia is marketed as a “stevia-based sugar substitute,” it is NOT equivalent to Stevia. Not even close, actually. Get this: the ingredient list for Truvia is as follows: Erythritol, Rebiana and Natural Flavors. Just three ingredients and Stevia isn’t even one of them. That right there should tell us something (for starters, not to trust the product manufacturer…which by the way is Coca-Cola teamed up with a company called Cargill…)" Hoping some other forumers can advise you if it will be available on-board if you are hoping to use it. Rare 4cats4me Posted November 18, 2013 #12 Share Posted November 18, 2013 Hmm. Seems like we are not being told the "Tru"th about Truvia.
fishycomics Posted November 18, 2013 #13 Share Posted November 18, 2013 1. substitutes are always around, but they may run out for the price they charge..... 2. Tea for free SO glad that twe.. is not offered, and Lipton is, just the perfume behind its taste I do not like. All the flavors can be found, and they tend to go fast. curtdesilets Posted November 19, 2013 Author #15 Share Posted November 19, 2013 That sounds much better than the site I looked up. Apparently Truvia recently settled a class-action lawsuit about their use of the term "natural" recently. Closer investigation showed that the group filing these charges had targeted numerous companies for the same thing. Seems a bit fishy, or shall I say "phishy".
