thunder_lin Posted July 12, 2005 #1 Share Posted July 12, 2005 How does one book a shakedown cruise and is it purchased at a discounted price? Any information would be appreciated.

RSGS315 Posted July 13, 2005 #3 Share Posted July 13, 2005 A "shake-down" cruise is a 1 or 2 night cruise just before the inaugural sailing of a new vessel. It is often for travel agents and/or repeaters, and it's usually by invitation only. Ginnie
Host CMLA Posted July 13, 2005 #4 Share Posted July 13, 2005 what the heck is a shakedown cruise? It's also an opportunity to shake out some of the bugs in the system. Make sure things work, etc.
tony@stanton19.freeserve. Posted July 13, 2005 #5 Share Posted July 13, 2005 I posted details of the Jewel's August shakedown cruises to Amsterdam & Jersey. The post got poofed as I presume the moderator saw this as advertising. I just thought it was a wonderful opportunity to be the first to sail on a brand new ship for a bargain price, and this would be of interest to this board. Try looking on the NCL UK site if it is still on.
Goldryder Posted July 13, 2005 #6 Share Posted July 13, 2005 I am on the Jersey shakedown and as far as I know there are still places, however the Amsterdam one before the Jersey appears full. The websites will give you details of availability.

tony@stanton19.freeserve. Posted July 13, 2005 #8 Share Posted July 13, 2005 What websites do you get this information on? Is it a one night cruise? The way I read the flyer, it's Jersey that's sold out. The trip is a Two nighter. http://www.uk.ncl.com/specials/bydest.htm http://www.uk.ncl.com/specials/Jewel05/Jewel_Flyer2.pdf I would have done one of these but we sail on the Dawn that week. sunshine 229 Posted July 13, 2005 #9 Share Posted July 13, 2005 Maybe someone mentioned this and I missed it but, are these trips usually sold at a discounted rate? To make up for the fact that there might still be glitches? Or are people so anxious to be first that they pay going rate and just expect to put up with a few bugs? Goldryder Posted July 13, 2005 #10 Share Posted July 13, 2005 Well my Jersey trip in as a single in a G class cabin on deck 8 was £418 inc port taxes. And from the look of the pics, well worth every single penny imho. :)
bananaboy Posted July 13, 2005 #11 Share Posted July 13, 2005 Amsterdam is the Travel Industry "event" and is full. Jersey, as of today, has limited availability but wont be around for long. I shall be on both. Can't wait. Mark
