I am going on the Getaway in Feb. and wondered if there are perks for Total Rewards Diamond members that can be used onboard. I have not been on NCL for 2 years but did receive free drinks etc. then.

I'm a TR member. I ended up getting a free cruise for up to 7 days for two. Including free (house) drinks in the casino. The only advantage was embarking, there's a separate line for the casinos at sea players! So I got to cut a few hundred people off going through security!

Do you have to be a certain level player to use the Casinos at Sea check in line?

Thanks!

There are very few perks. They do not recognize your TR status, no matter what it is. (I'm a Seven Stars, and I still will not get recognized as anything special.)

You are entitled to whichever perks come with being a CAS booking, and that's it.

Don't gamble on the ship. The games are terrible, and the comps are lousy. Also, your Caesar's property host back home will NOT know whether or not you gambled on the ship, so don't feel pressured to gamble just so your host is happy. They won't know or care that you gambled (or didn't gamble) on the ship.

I didn't find all the games horrible.

I played 3 card poker and hit a straight flush, 3 of a kind J's, and 4 of a kind 9's (along with the dealers hand), within a week.

Glad you got lucky, but 3-card-poker has a big house edge, even under ideal circumstances.

It's 2.32% in a typical Vegas casino (which doesn't sound bad, but actually is when you multiply it by several hands). It's over 7% if they only pay 3-to-1 on a flush (did they?)

You will not find any games aboard without a huge house edge, unless you play $50-or-more blackjack, where instead you will be substituting the high house edge for a high base bet (and you'll be on track to lose a lot anyway).

Why are you still going on about this? You have never sailed on NCL and have no credible knowledge about their processes.

In my experience the games are fun, and the comps are not bad at all...and I'm on my 18th cruise with them.

I do agree that your host at Caesars won't know about what happens on the ship. And so what? Your ship-board host will, and they have the keys to free cruises, drinks, meals, massages, VIP status, and more.

Just realize that Caesars and NCL are two separate companies, and you'll be fine. Listening to PokerPro, it's no different than saying "if you go to Vegas, only go to Harrah's" because Sands' are awful, and you won't get recognized.

You will get recognized. By Sands. Not by Harrah's.

No different.

Enjoy the ship, enjoy the casino. If you play enough, they reward you. Leave it at that.

Some people gamble because they enjoy the play of the games. I have a good job, and make my money that way. Then I spend it, enjoying myself.

If the house has an edge, that's no different than going to a movie theatre. I know they make a profit.

It's no different than shopping. The house always has an edge, it's how they pay the rent....which saves me from having to go to China myself, to source these items.

The 'house edge' employs the dealers, underwrites the discounts/comps, and ensures that the glamorous ships I like to sail will have a casino available for my entertainment.

That's an investment I'm willing to make.

I'm not sure the original question was answered.

Of you book yourself though NCL or a TA, your Total Rewards status doesn't get you anything on board.

If you use a "free" NCL cruise awarded by a Caesar's casino, you are considered a CAS guest and you can use the CAS check in line and get a free drink card.

If you book directly through CAS, free or discounted, you are obviously a CAS guest and are treated as such.

No, you cannot use your CET card on the ship. If you booked through CAS through CET you will get a drink card. You will be starting over earning comps. The 2 are related but not conjoined. I hope this answers your question.

These ^^^^ are the answers you're looking for, I think~ Your question wasn't perfectly clear. My husband is Diamond with Total Rewards and has been getting tons of free cruise offers, and with them we both got the drink card and I had forgotten about the CAS check in line but would have gotten that also. I think you also get invited to the cocktail party CAS has the first day on 7day cruises ???

There is only a party if there are enough CAS guests on the sailing, and if there is a tournament, only those entered are invited to the party. But, along as there is a drink card, we are good!

Safe sailing

Either we didn't get invited or there were too few or maybe too many CAS guests, but we didn't see anything about a party on our most recent cruise. We've gone to them in the past and enjoyed the hot 'd'oeuvres greatly.

As Total Rewards members we've taken advantage of several of the NCL Casinos At Sea certificates issued to Diamonds. As folks have commented, Total Rewards and Casinos At Sea are totally separate programs.

In addition to the complimentary CAS cocktails card, the CAS host will send perks to your cabin such as chocolate covered strawberries and/or bottles of wine. The CAS host will also book complimentary reservations for you to dine at any one of the special (pay) restaurants on board. At the conclusion of your cruise, the CAS points you accumulate while gambling on-board will be credited toward your ship account upon checkout.

It would be nice if the perks could more generous, considering we are a somewhat "captive audience" once on board the ship ... but the perks are adequate and the CAS hosts and hostesses are very nice and accommodating.

I cruised NCL Jewel in late December and was appalled at the rake they took for the blackjack tournament, which they tried their best to cover up.

Total money in prize pool: $1080

Total prizes awarded: $500 (single prize for first)

Awful. That's well over a 50% house rake.

Even worse, they kept holding additional "qualifying rounds" when the final table was supposed to start, just to take in more money (when the $500 prize was already maxed out, thus making it pure profit for the house).

Even by cruise ship standards, this was bad.

When I tried to ask them about the house rake before the tournament, they pretended not to know and gave nonsensical answers. When I figured it out on my own, they still pretended not to understand before quietly admitting that, yes, the rake is usually over 50%.

Not sure if it will be for the first cruise only, but I can tell you these two things:

1) Your free drinks will be well drinks only

2) The CAS check-in line is nothing exciting. When I checked in, it was longer than the regular line!

A few questions...

Who did you book through? A land-based casino, or through Norwegian's Casinos at Sea program?

On your reservation confirmation, what is the name of the entity that appears on the top left of the page?

On the same confirmation, what are the promo codes on the far right hand side of the page? These are the codes in ALL CAPS.

Who, exactly, told you that you could not use the CAS check in?

The cheap stuff from the gun~ not name brands~ you also get beer, wine with the drink card~

I feel compelled to clarify this a wee bit. The product that comes from a gun is a mixer, not an alcohol.

The term "Well" refers to the well, or rail that the lower cost alcohol bottles generally occupy.

In comparison "Call" refers to specific brands requested from the "Top Shelf."

Bar science is a bit different these days, then it was when these terms were coined, but that is where they originated from. Nowadays, some of the call brands are more frequently ordered, and for convenience purposes they reside in the well, but they are still call brands.

Hope that helps.

I'd like to clarify this part of your answer a bit, in case any new members of CAS read it:

Just as in a land based casino, you will receive comps in response to the $ you put at risk in the casino (and therefore the CAS points you accumulate). Please do not expect comp'd dinners, or bottles of wine right away, or in response to a small to moderate amount of gambling.

This page gives the formula for earning points (look towards the bottom of the page, under "Earning Your Points is Easy."

Once your gambling merits it, the casino host will contact you with various offers, or simply send things like bottles of wine to your cabin.

Crediting CAS points against your final ship's bill is only available if you pass 2,500 points accumulated on the cruise. Granted, if you're in the casino a lot, this won't be hard to do. But if you only visit the casino once, and only play penny slots at the lowest bet, you may not get there.

If you are in the casino a lot, listen for the announcement regarding "cashing in" your CAS points against the final bill. This used to happen on the last evening of the cruise, but it's recently been changed so that they now do it on the next-to-last evening. I feel this is a bad move on their part...if they stick with it, then I simply won't gamble on that last night, and it's their loss.
