Cruising in the rain?

I've never been on a cruise before and our family is booked on the Sunshine on December 15th. I'd love to hear what everyone does on a cruise when faced with rainy weather. I'm hoping that we get the typically beautiful weather that the Caribbean often has, but one must be prepared! So how do you spend your rainy days?

The Caribbean usually has pop up showers, which are gone within minutes. I remember going to St. Thomas and we did the sky ride and it was nice and then we got back on the ship and it rained for a bit. We actually sat outside, but under the cover of a part of the Serenity area. It also POURED in Miami for a little bit right after we boarded, but by the time muster rolled around, the sun was back out.

I've read that the liquid lounge area is pretty small. I wonder how well the sunshine accommodates large groups of people having to be indoors. Personally, I don't mind the rain as long as it's warm out. Beats the heck out of the freezing rain and snow we're getting!

On my last Carnival cruise, it rained in Jamaica for half the day. We already had an excursion booked so we went ahead with our plans anyway. We went river tubing [in the rain] and up Dunn's River. It poured while we went tubing but we all had the best time! Dunn's River was more of the same. If we had cancelled, we would have missed out on so many awesome memories. But anyways, like some of the other posters have said, the rain is never constant. Don't let it ruin your plans... you can wait it out or stay on the ship... your choice :)

If it rains, we just pull out our plastic ponchos and continue on.

The only exception was this summer in Bermuda. There was a terrible thunderstorm that lasted a few hours one morning. I was not about to leave the ship while there was lightning! We found things to do until the storm ended in early afternoon. and were still able to do most of the things we had planned for the day.

Funny you mention that.......we were on the Breeze, the day you left on the Liberty, and it POURED before sailaway. Thank GOD it cleared up.:D

Have done two completely rainy cruises, both 3days out of LA, one a repo to Vancouver. We stayed indoors until we got to port then we went into town.

At home we stay indoors when it rains, on vacation we GO.

Rare that rain will be steady an entire day. As a matter of fact in 25 or so cruises it has never happened to us.

It's rare but it happens, we left grand cayman on nov. 13 and it started raining that night. Rained most of the day in Cozumel, and pretty much all of the next sea day and it was still raining the next day as we were leaving Tampa, we were on B2B. I usually see rain in the later months.

GO MIZZOU!!!!!!!

On my rainiest cruise, it was really just little bursts of rain. Just enough time to go get a snack or shop for a bit. The exception was our day in Roatan where it rained for most of the time we were there. The nice thing about sea days is that the ship is moving and can avoid the big storms in most cases.

Just at random, I picked Belize City, Belize on Wunderground.com and they forecast for the next five days: Chance of rain, 20%, 20%, 80%, 70% and 60%. I think this is always the kind of forecast I find when checking Caribbean destinations.

I enjoy rain, so it doesn't really matter, except that I also enjoy photographing insects and most of them hide during wet weather. Ah well. The forecast here is for temperatures in the twenties over the next five days, with a possible snow storm... won't be shooting any butterfly photos in my neck of the woods.

We woke to pretty scary thunderstorms last summer on the day we should have been at HMC. They actually circled the area hoping the storm would pass but no luck. Our stop was cancelled and by mid-morning they had a new Fun Times out with all the activities for the day. The hairy chest contest was held in the atrium -hilarious! (Though I seriously hope they sanitized the stair railings after some of the antics!) Our teens were kept busy and we just had an indoor day at sea until mid-afternoon.

We had a lot of rain on our Pride cruise while we were trying to outrun hurricane Irene. We just did a lot of indoor stuff. Trivia, bingo, casino, onboard shopping. It wasn't the cruise I was expecting (I like to lay out in a lounge chair in the sun on sea days) but we made the most of it. It also poured while we were in Port Canaveral. I had met up with my mother who lives in Jacksonville and we went to a cute little shopping area, and ran from store to store and ended up sitting in a cafe chatting for awhile to stay dry. You can always find something to do in the rain, don't worry!
