PittsburghGirlee Posted December 7, 2013 #1 Share Posted December 7, 2013 My BFF is currently on the Pride. She called me from PC and told me that someone(s) is scratching the private parts off of a lot of the paintings on the ship and security is trying to catch them. She said well over 30 plus paintings have been vandalized throughout the ship... Even in the elevators.. A lot of passengers are talking about it and are also trying to catch the BOOBY SCRATCHERS... that is just horrible :(.... On a lighter note..... My BFF became Platinum on this cruise and was given the Tervis tumblers :) Just thought I would share....
crusinpsychRN Posted December 7, 2013 #2 Share Posted December 7, 2013 This has happened before. I'm hoping you're bringing up an old post and that it didn't happen again.
BigRed93 Posted December 7, 2013 #3 Share Posted December 7, 2013 Those have been scratched out for awhile. LOL. I don't think it is recent vandalism. I doubt they have replaced the murals inside the elevators. Sent using the Cruise Critic forums app
PittsburghGirlee Posted December 7, 2013 Author #4 Share Posted December 7, 2013 No, they are on the Pride right now and Security said it just happened on this cruise.. Security is staking out areas trying to catch the culprits.. I didn't know that this happened before...we were on the Pride in March of 2011 and I did not see any tampering with the David murals or the women's murals.....and we were all over the ship. cjknox Posted December 7, 2013 #5 Share Posted December 7, 2013 I don't see why the security is having an issue with catching who ever is doing this vandalism because there are cameras all over the ship.
Rare Tapi Posted December 7, 2013 #6 Share Posted December 7, 2013 Unfortunately, nothing new. We've witnessed the same thing on previous Carnival cruises. When we sailed on the Fascination, one of the things that caught my attention were the scratches and names carved/etched on metal surfaces. Who does that?? You can't escape vandals, even on cruise ships.

jetsfan Posted December 7, 2013 #8 Share Posted December 7, 2013 In this day and age to be so prudish is ridiculous. It is art and the human body is both beautiful and a miracle. How terribly sad that some twisted person/ people feel they can do whatever they want. I hope they catch them and make them pay, ALOT!

IPlayWithString Posted December 7, 2013 #11 Share Posted December 7, 2013 Unfortunately, many people cannot distinguish between art and pornography!!! That made me laugh a little because it brought to mind something that happened here a few years ago--some parents at a local middle school (not in our town, next town over) got an art teacher suspended for taking them to a museum with (whisper) NEKKID PEOPLES! I remember seeing it on the news and thinking, "Crap in a can..it's an art museum. You're GOING to at some point encounter a piece of work with a naked or partially naked person in it."

There is no evidence to suggest that this was done because of prudishness, could have just been kids. I also wonder why with all of the cameras security is having such an issue. FWIW this had been done prior to us being aboard the Pride last year, at least in the elevators.
dixieva Posted December 7, 2013 #13 Share Posted December 7, 2013 I don't think this is recent either. I was on the Pride three weeks ago and saw this all over the ship. In the elevators and in the hallways. Last year on the Pride there was no evidence of this but now it's all over. Such a shame!

iconoclast Posted December 7, 2013 #15 Share Posted December 7, 2013 If they were murals of men being killed in battle there would have been no vandalism at all, I'm sure. If you read the reviews of the ship on this website, you'll find that many if not most of the people who gave the ship lower ratings would complain about how offensive or over-the-top they found the decor. "Geez, Carnival, so many breasts! I had a four-year-old on board!" It used to be funny to read about the ignorant people until I heard about the vandalism. It became sad. I personally wouldn't sail on a ship without checking out pictures of the interior.

I agree with you on this...my initial thought was that it is kids and I sure don't understand how the person/people aren't caught on security camera. sharecruises Posted December 7, 2013 #18 Share Posted December 7, 2013 If you read OP's post - seems that this particular sailing has more vandals, "new" vandals... if you saw this months ago - think -maybe they repaired the damage and now have NEW damage? It does seem that the security cameras would catch this - >>>? JMO they need to install more security cameras - maybe especially on this ship and catch the culprits - put them (and their family) off at the next port with a hefty bill to repair the damage and let others see this....as a good example Honestly I have been on a fair amount of cruises and the ONLY ships I ever saw the stupid graffiti in ladies room, in elevators - names scratched in, etc even magic marker in one ladies room - is on Carnival Time to take a stance IMHO
kcwingwalker Posted December 7, 2013 #19 Share Posted December 7, 2013 Sadly this is another black eye for Carnival. Who wants to travel with a cruise line that is routinely being vandalized by it's passengers?
