J&MSails Posted December 12, 2013 #3 Share Posted December 12, 2013 We have stayed at the Holland House before our Wind Surf cruise last December. There is a water taxi that is 100 feet from the hotel that takes you right to the pier where the ship docks. If you get an ocean view room you will be able to see the Wind Surf in the morning from your balcony.
kbr Posted December 13, 2013 #4 Share Posted December 13, 2013 We are also on the January 18th sailing. We're not arriving until Friday and we're staying at the Divi, as the Holland House was sold out. See you soon!
Lvwindstar007 Posted December 14, 2013 #5 Share Posted December 14, 2013 We stayed for two nights before our Windspirit cruise two weeks ago. Nice beach and quiet beach bar scene. We hired a taxi for a island tour and ended at the ship. Taxis fair priced and easy to find. Enjoy.
Redtravel Posted December 19, 2013 #6 Share Posted December 19, 2013 St. martin is small. I have been vacationing there for more than 20 years. I have stayed on the Dutch side twice. Nice. The french side is better. I love the beach at Orient Bay. The restaurants in Grand Case are fabulous. I love La Plantation Hotel. It is a small place with charm. While it is not on the beach, the views from the hills are wonderful. It is a nice 5 minute walk to the beach. The staff at La Plantation makes you feel like family. No attitude. Cleanest place that I have ever stayed. Last year we stayed at La Plantation for 4 nights before taking the Windsurf cruise. We arranged with Thrifty Car rental to pick up the rental car at the airport. We returned it to the Thrifty office at the Divi. The Thrifty agent drove us to the pier. No extra charges. It was a good arrangement. Have a great vacation. Wish I were going with you. Unfortunately, due to illness I am staying home. Read the hotel reviews on Tripadvisor. The Divi is really a timeshare that rents rooms......very varied. Some good, many not good.
2LoveToTravel Posted December 24, 2013 #7 Share Posted December 24, 2013 We are on the Jan 18 trip as well. We are staying at Divi (stayed there last year too) we have also stayed at Sonesta Great Bay. Both are close to the port, and are fine. we rent a car from Hertz at the airport and drop it the next day at the Cruise terminal? Hertz is the only car rental company that has a place at the portals far as I know. This is a great itinerary. We have done it many times. Enjoy! sb44 Posted December 25, 2013 #8 Share Posted December 25, 2013 We did the Wind Spirit over Thanksgiving week and stayed at the Westin Dawn Beach for one night before and one night after. Very nice hotel - wonderful accomodating staff, great bed and pillows. Big casino in the lobby if you're into gambling. Good food and had an outstanding steak. Would recommend. Also, the electrical current on the Dutch side is same as U.S. current. Husband uses a CPAP at night and we didn't need to worry about a converter. Lot's of places to eat and drink close by. Try for an ocean view room. While you are there, don't miss the "Sunset Beach Bar and grill" out by the airport. A fantastic place to people watch and get as close as you'll ever get to a 747 landing. You are in for a treat, we have done this cruise twice and had a blast.
