Jewel Alaska- Juneau excursions

An inexpensive fast glacier look in Juneau is a trip out to the Mendenhall glacier. It is just outside of town and has a great informational center with a movie presentation. You can walk up pretty close to the face of that glacier...and learn a lot about glaciers.

In Juneau, take the Allan Marine small boat excursion. The small boat can get way closer to Sawyer Glacier (if the Jewel goes into Tracy Arm) or Dawes Glacier (if the Jewel goes into Endicott Arm). On our cruise in July, the small boat got 1/2 mile from Dawes Glacier, and the Jewel was at the 3 mile mark. Our boat also stopped and cut the engines for us to see some bears on shore and also for a mommy and baby whale playing around in the water. You will need to sign up early for this excursion as it sells out fast.

Loved the wilderness safari in Skagway. It is expensive but was a great excursion. No glacier walking but you get pretty close. Great scenery too

the Jewel goes to Tracy Arm. A "must do" with your priority to see glaciers would be to be sure to budget for NCL's add on ship excursion. Grossly superior compared to the cruise ship transit.
