What would you eliminate on CCL to get a 25% fare reduction across the board

Charge for room service and only allow one entree, one trip to the buffet, etc. Sick of seeing all the wasted food and the size of the people shoveling it down at the buffet.

 

If complainers want better shows charge them for a ticket. Better meal try the steakhouse.

 

 

I would be okay with some slight restrictions to the food but not sure how they could do it sensibly. Small fees for room service and half of the cost goes to the person that brings it. No tipping would be needed then.

The ultra-bare bones concept was already tried unsuccessfully by another cruise line. The company was called EasyCruise, and even though they had the financial backing from the highly successful EasyJet, the cruise line concept failed and they went out of business.

 

EasyCruise was as bare bones as could've been. Cabins were basically plastic pods with no real furniture. Housekeeping was an optional (for-fee) service, there was no entertainment (no shows, bands, comedians, etc). The only form of entertainment was a bar and a lounge were people basically entertained themselves.

 

The itineraries were very port intensive, with ports close to each other, and the ship sailing only about 4 hours maximum between one place and another and being at port the rest of the time (done to minimize fuel costs).

 

All food was also for an extra charge, and consisted of very basic, chain restaurant type of food.

 

In theory, the concept should've been popular, but even the most frugal of cruisers stayed away.

I think they took it a bit too far for it to be accepted by the general public. Carnival could pull of something along those lines - just not that extreme.

I think they are already headed that way. Make the MDR by reservation only. If you don't get reservations in time you will either a) need to reserve at a specialty restaurant or b) go to the Lido or possibly a new venue.

I know how to cut at least 25%. Pull away from dock and out to sea a few hundred miles. Now shut off the engines and drift. No power saves lots of money

I'm fine with the rates as they are. Carnival gives a nice cruise experience for a reasonable price in most cases. And if you book far enough in advance, you can save 25% or more on your own from your original booking simply watching for price reductions. Their fares fluctuate so often, they don't need to drop the starting points on anything IMO. If I go on a land based cruise, I'm typically going to spend more for almost round the clock food, gym access, pools, entertainment (whether I like it or not), transportation to island hop, and accommodations. On my last trip, I missd the midnight buffet, but totally see why they got rid of it. I can't image all the food that was wasted. Nothing needs to be eliminated.

 

On my last crusie with the midnight buffet (2007) ALL the darn food got eaten. I went to take pics, had a bit, them chilled for awhile while family and friends joined me. I have a buffet fettish, I like hanging around them. Seeing food in huge quantity is very comforting to me, grew up poor and hungry. If I am MIA check some corner in the buffet, just chilling. Pointless to say I have made it to my fair share of buffets and grocery stores, with tons of pics:D I take pics of food I prepare and post them on FB.

 

I am willing to pay more to see certain things return and tips included.

That's not practical. People won't cruise in the dark with no power for hotel functions. Ref: Triumph. Didn't work out so well. Even if you left the generators going for hotel functions you'd still need to have one of the main engines running to maintain steerage - otherwise you'd drift away from the port and would have to fire both back up in and go against the current to get back home, thusly using lots of fuel. Now if they could drift the current to another port and finish there that might work - but to do so would require a stop ina foreign port first. AGain, not practical

 

I'm surprised they don't push more CTN though.

If you want electricity, you need generators. If you want generators, you need the engines to run. No engine, no generators, no electricity or propulsion

We could eliminate MDR breakfast/brunch. We could make it where MDR is dinner ONLY, the rest of the food is on the Lido. We could eliminate towel animals. We could eliminate TV programming. We could eliminate luggage mats for the bed. We could eliminate the sampler toiletry kit.

 

The luggage mats are there for their benefit, not ours. It is to try and prevent the spread of bed bugs that are usually transported by passengers in their luggage.

The samples are given to them for free as a form of advertising.

Carnival already has fairly low pricing. I can't imagine paying $1250, including insurance, to sail for 8 days in an aft balcony cabin on any other line.

 

Which is why I booked the Splendor. We are platinum on Carnival, have been for years but haven't been on a Carnival cruise since 2009.

For me...

 

The pizza on lido could become cheese, sausage, and pepperoni. Forget all the fancy pizzas. The pizza was pretty terrible anyway.

 

The production shows on Fascination were awful-singers couldn't sing very well. They could go and we'd not complain. I'd rather they just show a movie in the theater instead of what they had.

Prices fluctuate so much how would you know you are getting a 25% drop? Our cruise in August started at $3000 for 2 OV rooms for 5 people when we booked in December. We choose it because it had one new port for us and best fit the timing we had available for a vacation. By the time we sailed it had dropped to $2500 and we had upgraded to 2 Balcony rooms. That was a17% drop plus an upgrade and we didn't have to eliminate anything ;). I really don't care what ships eliminate or add. I am willing to sail any ship if they have what I want for the price I am willing to pay. That is why I do my research. If a ship has what we want out of a vacation then I will compare it's prices to the other ships that have what I want and best price wins...bottom line.

 

Our wants always change for each vacation and I find the cruise lines have always changed something from the last time we cruised too. But I always look at what they currently offer to see if it corresponds to my wants and don't sit there making wish lists of what I wish they had or didn't have...IMHO that is pointless (and exactly what you are asking for in both of the threads you have started). If I did that I would be on RCCL complaining that they added Surfing, Zip Lines, and Ice Skating when I just what the better entertainment they offer at a lower price. But I don't do that. It's pointless and I don't need them to change to meet my wants...besides I know many others enjoy those things and are willing to pay for them. I just need to find the ship that does meet my wants at a price I'm willing to sail and choose it instead. Pretty easy way to keep my family happy and enjoy our vacation.

I agree...EasyCruise failed....there is the barebones Celebration out of West Palm, a redone ferry that attracts a lot of firs timers and people sucked in on time share promos...and real cost cutting - North Korea supposedly has a cruise with bunk beds in shared same sex dorms LOL

 

IF you wanted to really cut back >>

 

1) Buffet ONLY included, other restaurants for extra $$

 

2) Only continental breakfast included in room service - all else extra $$

 

3) Get rid of George Lopez - only have associations that pay the cruiseline

 

4) No Dr Suess -

 

5) More upsell in Kid's club - charge for services, only limited play time for free

 

6) Get more "affiliations" that pay - who knows? Starbucks or Dunkin D...

Put an Applebees and a Ruth Cris in there....hey let Walmart have a mini store......Micky D anyone?

 

7) put comedians in main showlounge for at least the late shows - and add some bingo games before and between for more revenue

 

8) Severely limit smoking - less cleaning and repair costs - but sell the electronic cigarettes on board at a jacked up price and let them vape most places other than food areas

 

9) Require people to check off if they do not want insurance - if they do not accept insurance do not budge no matter what their problem, circumstance is - ie, snowed in, family emergency, etc

 

10) at a certain age - or with any health restrictions , pregnant, etc.. I think people should be required to have insurance before they board.

Appalled by a few of these responses however: :eek: Pools, kids' Clubs, shows, mdr, lido deck Tv... What the heck, are you people kidding! How about they get rid of the shops, casino and bars while they are at it? My goodness.
